Still too rich for my budget, I'm afraid. The last FF plugin remaining on my wish list is Pro-DS, but even with the summer sale and referral credits it'd still cost me $91. A good deal, for sure - but it's also 10% of next month's health insurance premium, which I have only two weeks to scrape together.

Geehosaphat Bit!!  That premium sounds dang high.  Is it cause you're self employed?  Have you tried the ACA exhanges??

Self-employment, man. I've spent over $6,000 so far this year on health care, even without any back surgery. There's also self-employment tax. Here in Washington State we've also got the Business and Occupation tax ($900 a year), high property taxes ($500 a month), sales tax that adds 9.5% to every tube of toothpaste (or 5 grand to a nice car). We pay to use parks. You can't even fish for your food, that costs more than a fish dinner at a restaurant, and you can only take home two fish anyway.

Some of it's the price of not having a boss, an office or a commute. Some of it's the price of living in a desirable corner of the world (no snow, no hurricanes, no tornadoes, even thunderstorms are rare; no poisonous critters, clean air, lots of water and trees, and legal pot).

Ouch! Those property taxes are killer, even compared to us Californians.

Washington is a gorgeous state, but that's a big price to pay!

You're just not paying your fair share? Just ask anyone in the current administration? How much should you pay? "More..."  Oh BTW? You have a volcano or two?  (ring of fire?)

People in your state voted for "this?" So? You're welcome... Perhaps you should be part of the solution?

Just those losers in the south end are at risk from a lahar. It'd never make it as far as my house in the north end. Today Boeing builds 737's where the last lahar from Mt. Rainier came to a stop. Last eruption was 132 years ago, and it only happens once every, oh, 150 years or so.

Hmm, come to think of it, some of our forum members live in that path. Tom? You have an escape route planned for when the sirens go off?

Now the big subduction quake that's coming, that's another matter. There won't be much of Seattle left if that happens. It'll be a 9 or a 10 and will last probably two or three full minutes, long enough to bring down every single one of the supposedly earthquake-resilient structures. Google the 1964 Anchorage quake - it'll likely be 10x that one.

But I'm ready for the Big One. Canned food, water, propane, first aid, ammo and a generator to keep my DAW going.

I remember a lot of people speaking very highly of these before.  I really need to find some go to basic plugs for EQ and compression etc.  I used really like my UAD ones, but those are gone now with the new computer.

Thoughts on whether these would fit the bill?  Of course I have plenty of other ones, but I don't always feel like cyling through 10 different compressors.

For general-purpose compression and equalization, you can't go wrong with Pro-C and Pro-Q. They are both excellent. Pro-C is overdue for an update, but FF have hinted that one is coming.

I love FabFilter products, but they are relatively pricey. If money is a concern, as it is for me, the good news is that there are less-expensive alternatives to FF that are still in the same league in terms of audio quality and features.

As Bit said, the Melda MAutoEQ, MDynamicEQ, and MAutoDynamicEQ are astounding for the price...
They've been on sale all month and still are in the JRR Blowout shop.  They're easily worth
regular price and a STEAL at the half off Sale Price...IMO...

Agreed, especially now that it has a decent GUI in X3.  For a "color" EQ, why not snag the excellent HoRNet SW34, which you can buy for under 15 bucks right now.  On sale today only!

I'm adapting to the Melda offerings. Definitely impressive and deep capabilities in them, and quite often with very little effort you can get a "wow" moment with the sound. Their price, especially if you catch a sale item, is really reasonable.

All that said, I love the FabFilter stuff. Their interfaces just invite you to work with the tools and like Bit says, Pro-C is just great. Pro-Q as well, and on and on.

If I didn't have any of that stuff and only some spare change in my drawer, I'd first go for Melda offerings. The end result is you actually get probably the best results with them anyway in terms of sound. But they aren't pretty tools. It takes a little patience to understand how much power is at your disposal with them.

FabFilter stuff can be a mix of tough and easy as well to learn, also have great results, and sure are fun to look at and adjust. But unless you get in on a rare sale, they definitely are pricey!

Yorolpal has rubbed off on me, and I agree and vouch for FabFilter.

Stay where you are and be happy, Jim. In BC you get the best of both worlds. The same laid-back attitude (mostly), clean air (mostly), proximity to water and seafood, greenery and of course BC Bud. And free French lessons on the back of every cereal box. You can always pop on down the road any time for a visit - apparently a popular option judging from all the BC plates I see at the mall.

I just want to add my agreement to the comments about FabFilter - if money was no object, I'd have most of them, and I particularly like Pro-Q... it's intuitive and flexible, and certainly worth a try.

With ProChannel, the more I use it, the more I like it. QuadCurve is a nice EQ and having the 2 Compressors is convenient. I purchased PC2A Leveler module when it was on sale and that turned out to be a good deal. I'd encourage you to play with PC a bit - my only complaint is that I wish I could un-dock and float the PC modules.

Right on Bit! Pretty proud of our BC bud - that's for sure. Only do a tiny fraction of what I once did, but still top notch.
I honestly thought we'd beat your 1st 4 states in legalizing it, because our previous Prime Minister Jean Chretien was all ready to do so, until President George Dubya Bumble-feck the hypocrite stopped him from doing so.
Kind of ironic considering his past, not to mention the all too well known 'failed war on drugs'.

Thanks for the open invite - I rarely ever cross the line, but I know that so many do, for shopping mostly.

Hate the French on the other side of every box - everywhere. Why? Because almost every time I pick up a cereal box [or any other], I always seem to end up on the French side, only to have to turn the damn thing.
Quite annoying after 53 years - especially since most of us don't even speak French in Canada. Certainly way less than 50%. If anything, our 2 or maybe even 3 official languages will soon be English, Chinese, [actually Mandarin], and East Indian - [probably Punjabi].

I remember seeing a comedian talk about this. Apparently it has to do with most people being right handed, and they way we unwittingly grab & turn the packages to read them.
Maybe I should have kept up with my ambidextrous practices in school. If I had, maybe I'd be lefty by now, and not have this dang problem anymore.

On a completely unrelated note to the current discussion but, related to the thread subject...

Does anybody know if the 10% discount for referrals by current fabfilter customers would apply on top of the 25% discount of the sale. Just curious. I have been eyeing a few of their plugins, particularly Saturn and Timeless, and wouldn't mind jumping on a bundle if it was 35% off. I don't own any as of yet.

I don't think the referral discount applies to discounted bundles, unfortunately. Just to individual plugins.

Keep me in mind if you do decide to spring for one, though! I'd be very appreciative to anybody who lets me refer them. 8 referrals and I get a bicycle. Or Pro-DS.

For sure bit. Not to sound creepy but I was planning to PM you for the referral if I went through with the purchase anyway. I don't post a lot but I read the forum quite a bit and have found your posts really helpful. Your posts are a big reason why I've been checking out fabfilter and melda stuff lately. Thanks.

    .... Seriously, I swear I'm not creepy...

Thanks, Mantofini. Not creepy at all. Creepy is the guy who wanted to sign me up for a religious cult and made a point of emphasizing they weren't the least bit into Kool-Aid, just mushrooms.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
