Factory Yoyo presents: Sugar Moon
Howdy all. Here's a track that I started almost 4 years ago, kept putting it down/picking it back up, and I finally finished it. A little rockabilly country tune, with a Tom Waits style vocal. Hope you all enjoy this piece of country-fried goodness. https://soundcloud.com/ha.ertoe/sugar-moon-6-17-16

This sound great in my ears. I especially like the background vocals in the beginning. Cool track.

James, Glad you picked it back up:) Really excellent production. The melody is really catchy. Backing instrumentation is superb - really like the sound of the guitars. The arrangement never gets repetitive and the little breakdown in the middle is executed brilliantly. The only thing not quite sure about is the Country categorization To me this seems a bit more Rockabilly than Country (or at least todays Country). Anyway, regardless of the genre, it is a really fine song and production.

You are right Mark. It is a rockabilly tune and I have adjusted the description, Thanks for the kind words. Down thru the years I actually tried to get four different singers to take a stab at this one, but I managed to croak it out!

A tad too much verb/delay on the lead vox for a Waits style vocal. JMO. Other than that no real negative crits.

rockabilly? blues? i'd go glam-rock personally! of course top production but actually quite restrained for you. sounds quite intimate which i'm sure was a choice you made. cool beanz as ever from you.

I liked it.... it's different, not quite one thing or the other. Sounds good all around either way though. I wouldn't consider the vocals croaked out though, they sound pretty right to me. Building on Mark's reference, maybe you've come up with a new genre - Glam-Rock-Abilly.

Glam? I really didn't see that one coming. Is it the fuzzy lead guitar?

Interesting tune, James, I can see why this would have been an on again off again project. Loved the bass line and the croaky vocal.

Very well done. I like the change to the faster section. I'm not sure I like the transition back to the initial tempo but that's just subjective. Excellent work!!!

Now see, when I comment on your song you know I'm being honest... Great intro hook! You start out going a bit psychotic! I love it! more like a lunitic "get it" moon... lol There is some odd gtr stuff going on under the vox 40 – 50 seconds that needs to be cut or lower in the mix. I don’t like the solo hunk…1:49 – 2:00 pre vox.. I would go straight to the sugar moon vox… the dead space is cool but the silence is not set to the right time for the rest… I would hang the guitar out after some of the verse sections as well, you seem to cut the guitar when the words stop. You slipped out of the psychotic feel… :( It could use some accent twangy notes randomly placed… I don’t want to p in your coffee… ;) Just me... Peace!
