Factory Yoyo presents: "The Triumph of Spartacus", a closing-credits orchestral coda
Started this last week, as a John Williams-ish piece to play during the credits to an action movie. This is the first orchestral piece that mostly takes me where I wanted to go; full of pomp, flourish and majesty (I hope!). I figured out a pretty good trick to creating a full orchestra sound: use two completely different libraries! In this case Kontakt and IK's Philharmonic. It's only three minutes, so I would appreciate the listen. And turn it up! The Soundcloud conversion left it a bit low. The Triumph of Spartacus

I like this a lot! Very well done piece! My copy of EWQL SO arrived today, so I'll be experimenting with that soon. Never thought I'd enjoy orchestral music so much. Regards, Dan

This sounds absolutely amazing James. An incredibly dynamic piece. I turned this up pretty loud and it filled the room (good job i don't have anyone living next door right now). One of the best orchestral - based tracks i've ever heard on this forum. The mix sounds fantastic. Very well done.

You will not be disappointed... EWQL Rocks pretty hard as Jim has demonstrated here. There are better high end packages? But if you're not scoring for major sound tracks? This package is pretty much the cats arse IMO. Jim this is really well conceived and executed, the sparse intro, the use of recitative? The movements, and use of orchestral percussion along with varied attacks, swells, legato and staccato? Really masterful.

James, This was very nicely done for a first orchestral take and I'm sure when you have it completed it will be totally awesome. I don't know what you have planned for this piece, but the orchestration is always a great starting point when I compose, then you just add in what you like for added dynamics. I'd like to see what your planning with this one. I'll keep watching this thread. Great piece. Peace and blessings, John

I have written a huge bunch of orchestral pieces but what I was trying to get across is that this one really captured what I love about a rousing symphonic piece.

I was trying to just groove off the theme in different ways. But it was not done with ewql, since I don't own it. Rather it was made with the stock stuff that comes with Kontakt and IK Phil Btw: the trailer for that new Superman movie just hit tonight, and Hans Zimmer did the score. It sounds awesome, and the movie looks fantastic. .

Very impressive. Interesting throughout and thorough details. As an overall piece it was quite memorable and entertaining, without going overboard. Listened a few times....good stuff. Sound quality is pretty good, I would love to hear what it would sounds like with some of the bigger cinematic libraries out there. Have recently been watching some videos by Daniel James on YouTube where he covers products like Symphobia, LASS, Cinebrass, CineWind, EWQL, etc.... and they are all pretty impressive, but, also pricey to match. Regards

Yeah, I think you got the dynamics of the "Rousing" just right. Excellent sound quality and I agree the mix of instrumentation gives it a beautiful edge over choosing a single source. The blending does seem very realistic I think it adds some real dimension to the dynamics. Very well done, James - Loved it!!!!

Great work James. I would say you met your goal completely. Seems perfect for the intended job. The only thing that stood out for me were the horn horns at about the 1:14 and 1:17 mark, and then again a bit later. They sounded midi. About the only thing that did to me. Kudos.

james nice orchestration there in the beginning section.... mixing the two kits, yea, totally works... i suppose this is how most arrangers do it, you just gotta have access to a LOT of libraries.... and know them well enough to know what to pull for what reasons.... nice job.

hey James as everything you do it is awesomely conceived. The tunes were well done, you got mostly the right balance between brass and strings. only little nit, i missed some woodwind in there to break it up a bit. just listening on the laptop, but it cam across as a little narrow. this might be just on here though. will listen again on the main system on sunday

I think it sounds terrific James. I am interested in your process for composing this. did you do it simultaneous with the recording or did you score it all out and then play it or something else?

Jackel I think it sounds terrific James. I am interested in your process for composing this. did you do it simultaneous with the recording or did you score it all out and then play it or something else? Nah, I just start with some ideas and then flesh them all out. Then I wrote the secondary piece and threw it all together. But usually it starts with some sort of string movement that inspires the rest of it. Which is why all my orchestral pieces have that element to them!
