Factory Yoyo returns home

Got power, got heat, got the family back in the house. Thanks to everyone who prayed for us, shared positive thoughts, and gave us encouragement.

My town, however, is still in terrible shape. The devastation will linger for months and years. All the sand that has been taken from the streets is being piled up by huge machinery to one hundred foot high mountains. The garbage of people's entire households being thrown out on the sidewalk is heartbreaking. Many folks may have power but their boilers have been destroyed by the salt water during the flood, and must wait weeks for replacements.

Today was the first day back to school and barely half of my son's fifth grade classmates have returned.  I estimate that more than half the homes in my town are still vacant.

Keep the once-mighty Long Beach in your prayers....

Good to hear James my friend.

And yeah, it will take years to recover fully. There are still places in NC that have been forever changed by the big storms we have had, and the mere mention of a storm sends shivers down the spines of those who have seen first hand what a big storm is capable of.

    James,
I'm glad to hear your family is safe.  I am sorry to hear about your home and community.

My home was impacted by a tornado in April 2011.  1-1/2 yrs later we're about 98% back to normalcy.  My neighborhood pulled together and still continues to help one another out.  There is so much I could say here but this isn't the proper place.  I'm certainly willing to offer you any advice from handling your insurance claim to dealing with contractors.  This all based on my personal experience and that I work for a large electrical contracting firm.  I could save you some headaches.

Anyway,  we'll continue to lift up prayers for you, your family and community.

    Regards,
    Rich

James, welcome back!  I hope to hear you up and running  soon.  I always thought that living in the middle of a continent was not for me, but I'm rethinking that, now.  Wherever you go, Mother Nature is there.  You'll have a lot to be thankful for this year.

    All the best,

Glad to hear you got everything back into some kind of order, sounds as if there is still a long way to go for the town though.

I'm late, but WB, James! Glad to her you're all right (and I'm with GH regarding storm damage. The tornado in April ...)

Good to hear things are back together for you. A few of my friends in Long Beach lost everything (houses and cars). I am on the north shore  (just east of Port Jeff) we lost power for 9 days but no damage to the house. Spooky stuff. Count your blessings and welcome back.
