Fader Remote Control

All:
I'm trying to get my O1X faders to be remote controls for faders in Sonar. I am about 30% successful - when I right click on the Sonar track fader and select remote control then hold down the LEARN button the O1X fader will sucessfully control the Sonar fader -but- about 15% of the O1X fader will take the Sonar track fader from neg inf to +4.2 - Here are the two spedific issues

#1 only about 15% of the O1X fader controls the Sonar fader - this makes for a very very tight fader throw
#2 I can't seem to get repeatable results for the coverage range in Sonar.

I've tried starting both at neg inf during the learn process, and started both at Full Gain - and everything in-between. Any idea how to get more of the O1X fader throw to control at least neg inf to unity in Sonar?
