Faders don't fade, and return on own
I am just learning to work in midi, and have imported tracs from Sibelius, OPENING them in Sonar. I have also opened an instance of Aria player, and chosen my Garritan sounds, and routed them accordingly. It plays back fine - tempo changes and all. 1) As I try to mix the volume levels, 2 things happen: sometimes there is little or no change in volume - or for example, if I'm trying to lower the volume, there's finally a dramatic drop near the lowest setting - after little or no change up to then. 2) When I am able to get a volume change, as soon as I press play (or let go of the fader if the projects playing back and I'm mixing in real time), the fader immediately goes back to it's original setting. The only time I'm ever able to get the faders to stay where I move them - in audio or midi - is immediately after opening a project. Most of the time, as soon as I've done anything in the project, the faders seem to be locked. They will move, but then bounce right back. Thanks.

If I had to take a guess, I would say that the imported MIDI tracks contain volume information that is resetting your changes upon playback. You'll likely have to record new volume automation to override the imported information.

I probably didn't make this clear, but I don't just have that problem with imported midi tracs...it's also is a problem when working in Sonar with audio tracs - the faders always resist change..

Have you checked to see if there are any envelopes on any of your tracks?
Which version of sonar are you using?
What are your computer specs & interface make/model/settings.

What probably is happening is there is Sys Ex data imported from Sibelius. It is probably in the 1st measure and could be potentialy changing patch and instrument data also.
Try deleting everything in the 1st measure except audio/notes.
You might be able to see this unwanted data looking in the Event List.
just to be safe I would save a safety version under another name before you start deleting things

Thanks, and I will try that, but as I said above, it does that in audio files, too.

envelopes will cause faders to "snap back" to where they are set.
If you work in console view and move a fader... if there is an envelope in the track, as soon as you release it, it will move back to where it's supposed to be according to the fader.
In the track view in Sonar.... envelopes can be very hard to see if you are in CLIP mode. Switch the mode to automation and select volume and the envelopes will highlight nicely for you. You can then edit and delete them as needed.
