Fading in Midi recorded Tracks

Having a problem fading in/out recorded midi instrument tracks. Or even manipulating them. Trimming the track looses the track, and so does using automation. Applying clip automation from the clips drop down menu doesn't work either. Of course anything works on a regular or analog track. There must be something i can do to a midi track to be able to manipulate it. This one continuous midi track with no breaks. (created in z3ta as a intro synth track) I want to be able to gradually come up from the start of it with no volume and fade up to the volume I need.  Any suggestions?

    So do you have it setup as a simple instrument track or a separate midi and audio tracks? The z3ta should be on a track that sends it's audio output to the mix. So that's the track you want to manipulate - not the midi track.

    Split the tracks out if necessary and apply volume automation to the audio track

    Or, if you are happy with the performance on the MIDI track bounce it to audio then manipulate away.

    There's actually lots of ways to skin this cat. 
    Another trick is draw a CC7 event in PRV.

    I do MIDI volume automation all the time and it does in fact work. I like to get the un-rendered dynamics as close as possible, then do the final automation tweaks on the audio track after the bounce.
     
    However, I have noticed that how well CC7 automation works depends on the synthesizer. How much effect it has on an instrument's volume is not standardized, and is left up to the instrument designer. Some (e.g. Kontakt) let you scale CC7's effect. Some make you jump through hoops to get it to work at all - Trilian, for example ignores CC7 until you explicitly enable host automation and then do a MIDI Learn. 
     
    Not being a z3ta user, I don't know if it has issues with volume automation. What happens if you substitute another synth for testing?


    All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

    For fade out, I prefer to use CC 11 and not CC7.  I use CC 7 to control master volume of the midi track and then use CC 11 to control dynamics.  For instruments that respond to CC 11 in another way then volume, this obviously, won't work and be forced to use CC 7 for the volume dynamics.
