Fake bass sounds using a guitar
I made a video on how to get a bass sound using a guitar. Of course it's demonstrated in Sonar and everything I used is free. Although it's not a perfect bass sound IMO it is preferable to samples if you want realism in terms of slides, dynamics, timing, ect. I hope this helps some of you. https://youtu.be/_iJlTc_qdrQ

Interesting. What I've tried (thanks to Kenny Wilson for the tip) was to play the bass part on guitar, then insert a soft synth simple instrument track with a bass patch, drag the audio into it and let Melodyne convert the audio to MIDI. ...then I emailed Bapu to do me a bass track cos it sounded like ****

I've recorded a part on a telecaster audio track, dragged into a Dimension Pro track set to Wood (Double) Bass; dragged down an octave and added some slight bends. It was quite convincing.
i5 6500 3.2GHz; 16GB; Win10 on SSD1; recording and samples on SSD2; + 3 other HDDs; 2 monitors in landscape; back with CbB and also Cubase 10 Pro, Komplete 11, Steinberg UR22. Instruments: Various fretboards and amplifiers. Listen to ... Cosmic Two-Step (2017)

This is something us guitarists are always looking to find (guitar to bass).....I use Jam Origin's Midi Guitar and it works very well.......until I get carried away with soloing.  You can also do this in Amplitube3 & 4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WD0AkR0g-k Good tip there Chandler!!

Probably the best direct conversion of analogue guitar signal to bass sound I've found is the COSM effect(s) to be found in the Boss Micro BR-80. I was so impressed that I went looking for any other examples of this and found it in the Roland (AKA Boss) GP-10. Somewhat surprisingly, I think the BR-80 does it better!
Ross/Boland do not make a stand-alone pedal to do this, which is a bit of a shame IMHO.

I've used the COSM effect as well to convert guitar to bass and it worked well. The only drawback is if you are holding the bass note for a long time, as the signal decays the pitch gets a little wonky.

And after I finished recording that track, that is what I did. Although my bass playing sucks.

After trying to replicate bass on guitar a few times, I found a simple solution: I got a bass.

Got to agree with a few of the posts above....
I tried this method. I don't think my Sonar 1 essential has the ability to alter the pitch so I grabbed Melodyne and used it. Played a "bass line" on the guitar.... used Melodyne Editor to move it 12 semitones down.... and hit playback...
OMG that sounds like S*&@! Tried a few things to fix it.... nope...still sounds bad if not worse. Nothing even close to what the OP said they got going this.... Oh well,,,,, it was a fun experiment.
Delete the experiment and continue to use Midi with a good bass sample until I get a real bass guitar.... I'll probably be using midi for some time.

I still use an ancient Boss BR-8 as a guitar modeller. Such great tones from that unit, I can't bear to part with it.

Some real funny stuff going on here …. Thing is, a cheap bass (under 100 bucks on CL) still sounds infinitely better than any bass synth I've ever heard. I'm not a search and sample kind of guy so maybe I haven't heard really great synth sounds, but seriously, I was amazed how easy a deep, rich bass sound was from a real bass guitar. You can spend money if you want to, but you really don't have to spend much to beat a guitar trying to sound like a bass. I'm the poorest musician on this forum, I'm pretty sure, and I did it for under a hundred bucks.
And the time a real bass saves you, too...I mean come on, that's worth its weight right there. Who wants to point and click for hours when you can knock it out in 10 or 15 minutes actually playing?

As for time, it depends on your skill level and what midi input methods you have available to you. I struggle with a lot of string noise when I am releasing the strings from a fret which reduces my confidence when playing. I can input bass synth parts very quickly using a midi keyboard. I bought my bass prior to moving in the box (I used a BR600 digital recorder to record tracks and mixed using GT Pro 3 and 4.) Then I bought my bass and shortly after moved into the box.
