Fall (hard on me)

Hi Cakefolk.............I've been distracted by stuff and not been annoying ya'll lately.  I can't seem to keep up with life (and i used to gallantly run ahead of it)....

I did this little tune about being there for someone when they're at their lowest.

I'll be tweaking over the next few days as my objectivity returns.

I hope you like but please feel free to be honest and tell me what you hear/don't hear.

Welcome back, Rick! This is a cool song! Has almost a Halloween vibe to it.

I grow weary of telling you how good your material is. Then I say to myself, “who am I to keep my opinion to myself when it is in fact a positive opinion”. I have two brothers, an older (by two years)  and a younger  ( by 2 years) we grew up listening to a wide variety of music ; Marty Robbins, Frankie Lane,  Burt Bacharach (anything he wrote), Beach Boys, Steely Dan – all the Brits – the house was always blasting our fav music. Your tunes would have had their own special place on our playlist (if a turn table could have a playlist) and they would have their own “reference”. I can hear my little brother saying “when Procol Harum ends, throw on the Gents”.  Do not let this comment give you the impression that I think your music is “dated” – not one bit, quite the contrary – it is fresh, vibrant , very much new and worthy of a place in our musical archives. You march to your own drummer – could be Buddy Rich on mescaline or Tito Puente in a rage. March on.

I can't think of anything to say that I haven't said before about your stuff. Didn't find this one as instantly hooky as usual, but three listens in it's growing on me now. Listening on lappy the piano seems a bit muffled here and there, but then as I always say part of the charm of your stuff is that it sounds very spontaneous and not overly produced, at least to my ears. Sorry if that does you a disservice in terms of how long you spend production wise, but it is meant as a compliment.

Hey Rick, not my favorite offering from the gents, but that's because you have so many that I really like.

All you need is love, just ask the Beatles?

    Bobby,
I'm super glad you enjoyed this.  Thank you so much for stopping by! :)

    Scotty,
Thank you, sir.  It was a bit scary to do. :)

    Herb,
I'm doing my studious best to control this chaos but it's like wishing my hair wasn't falling out....useless. :)
Thanks for the listen and notes!

    James,
Next one will be more tight and roped in.  You'll see. :)
Thanks for the drum compliment....i spend days on getting the drum sound where i want it.

    Marcos,
Thanks for the ears and i'm glad it worked. :)

    BIAB,
Good to see you popping in.  Thank you for your kind response to more of my midlife crisis!

    Manny,
That's a great sonic environment to have formed your song muscles...it shows in your work.  I'm honored to fit in to that sentance in any way.  I, too, owe heaps to my 2 older brothers...one big into motown, stax recordings and the other surf, brit, folky pop.   Burt Bacharach was my discovery in our house and i feed off him to this day.
Thanks again for your hearty comments!

    Paulo,
I can't get a better compliment than 3 listens.  I'm thrilled.  I have over produced many songs before and have given up trying to do something i can't.  Thank you again for the listens and comment.

    Bandontherun,
Sorry it didn't work for you but i'm grateful you gave it a whirl.  Thank you.

    Hi Rick,

This a really cool tune. I love that guitar line ( on the right side ) you play during the chorus.

Nice piano solo, too.  This has all the elements that I like about your music.

    Very nice!

In this day and age it is difficult to develop "your own sound" and make it desirable to hear over and over.  You've accomplished that and this is one of the best.  RickNoHow, UDAMAN.

you have this unique vocal style which is almost falling off the edge of tunefulness but doesn't quite, and is great because of it. love the quasi-barroom piano playing.not as off-the-wall as some of yours but still great.
