Fall of Trees (Tim Wilkinson)

Is that England I hear falling
All sense of certainty blown away and gone?
My long lost father’s voice still callin’
The tang of summer lingers on

But at my feet green shoots are growin’
I’ll look at these yeah I’ll look at these
While somewhere distant, somewhere distant
I hear the fall of trees, I hear the fall of trees
Alright

Well hold my hand lest hearts grow weary
Mourn the loss of half-forgotten things
Bittersweet when sugar’s plenty
But it’s too sweet, it’s too sweet
This loss and longing

But at my feet green shoots are growin’
I’ll look at these yeah I’ll look at these
While somewhere distant, somewhere distant
I hear the fall of trees, I hear the fall of trees
Alright

Tony Blair was a liar, sold us his stories of war
Sent our children into the fire, sold England’s word like a whore

Have we witnessed the ending of all that held meaning
Nailed upon the tree the last thing we believed in?
Descend to stillness, a silent sending
Greenheart failing, fails to answer

At my feet green shoots are growin’
I’ll look at these yeah I’ll look at these
While somewhere distant, somewhere distant
I hear the fall of trees
At my feet green shoots are growin’
I’ll look at these yeah I’ll look at these
While somewhere distant, somewhere distant
I hear the fall of trees, I hear the fall of trees
Alright

And I lament that we’ve come down to days like these
I lament that we’ve come down to days like these
I lament that we’ve come down to days like these

Lovely, poignant tune, James.  Perfectly recorded too so far as I could tell... everything crystal clear.

nice song, nice feel to it and certainly sounds great.
I'm gonna be unpolite here (that's second nature being a dutchman)..
would you care to make the song downloadble for a day/ or send it to me by email ?
Because I would like to try make it sound just a little better than it already is..
For me that would be a good training as I'm trying to learn, and just perhaps you'd get it back with a little sound improvement (again, it sounds very good already).
But respect/understand ofcourse if you're not interested.

anyway, enjoyed the song + best of luck

Simon and Garfunkel maybe??? Oh, no... it's James and Tim !!! Wow, that was a really nice song with a great sound and awesome vocals. I would have like a small guitar solo type thing somewhere in the middle, but other than that it sounded very nicely done.

enjoyed this one a lot more than the last one.
for me there's not enough definition between verse and chorus especially the final chorus, but I know this is the vibe you guys are aiming at. the performances are excellent as always. not entirely sure of the lyrical message

i can't quite reconcile myself to the fact that you're going for simplicity and the days of songs like 'Steep Hill' and 'Brave Boy' are over?! i know i need to. lol

    Excellent!

just listened to Willowman and One Save Place as well ... great songwriting and performance.
This could really go somewhere (right up there with David Grey, Frank Turner e.c.t...)

Very, very good!  I, too, hear a little Paul Simon in your voice.  Usually it's Peter Gabriel, but today it has a different quality.  The lyrics are wonderful and poignant.  Should be on tour.

Colin Hay, eat your heart out! Great tune, very well mixed, I'd only look at the choice of mixing the acoustic pickin back a hair. It certainly works as background, but presenting them more up front would be a choice worth looking at. Don't need to hide them quite as much as you are, in my opinion.

+1 for having your vocal up front and very present.

    cheers,

A beautiful tune.  I have always loved Tim's voice. Your work is always exceptional, James and I love listening to it.  Second listen is to get a bit more into lyrics.  First listen is overall feel of the tune and this one is beautiful.

Beautiful piece guys! If I could change anything, I would have placed the acoustic in stereo, left and right. Ebow in the center, with a gentle 1/4note delay. I think it would have framed the vocal better...just my opinion though...
