Fallen Take 1

Just trying out a new guitar sound from NI for the finger picking bit ... I know it's cheating but ...

nice guitar sound (even if it is sampled!) - lead vox are great

that kick sounds muddy and sounds like it's in a completely different room than everything else, tho.

the BGVs at 0:50 sound a little hot and I'm not fond of the FX there and on the lead vox at 1:23 - but those are personal tastes.

Beautiful song. Made me sit back and really listen. You didn't put as much fx on the vocal (EQ I guess)  like some of your previous songs and I think that works better.
Some nits:
The BGV kinda startled me the first time it came in. Maybe tone that down a bit. The guitar squeaks were a bit distracting. IMO you don't need that bass drum or whatever is thumping back there.

I enjoyed listening to the song.
Are you using NI Electric Sunburst?

Thanks for the I/P guys, this bit of work was 'knocked up' in a day to see how the guitar sounded from NI. I agree with everything said here, and the comment regarding the Kick, LOL.

The guitar is indeed the Electric Sunburst sample Bjorn, and retails here in the UK @ £90.00 ish. It would get a bit much, I feel, if over used in a song but I thought it may help from time to time, when I need rhythmic guitar patterns that I couldn't otherwise play .... and there's a hell of a lot!

Have to say not my best work but I may do it again properly with your obs in mind.

Many thanks for your time & ears

Just a lovely tune in every way. I like all your stuff, but this one made my day. I thought the way you effected those background vocals and the sparse kick drum really brought out the surreal aspect of the lyrical content. The only suggestions I could make would be to maybe add a cabasa or shaker around 0:45, and I'm not sure about that solo around the 2:00 mark that sounds sort of like a fretless guitar. I think something like a french horn might have worked better.

You're improving as a writer with almost every song. I can't say that about too many guys our age.

Hi Bill, many thanks for listening, like Bjorn I feel (esp having watched your stuff on YT) a bit of a fraud using Ni's Sunburst Guitar synth on the rhythm bit.

As said it was just to try it out with some words and so I didn't pay too much attention to the mix but I will try and do this one with a little 'fairy dust' just to see how it turns out.

BTW, I had no idea of your skills with the old guitar stuff, and without meaning to sound patronizing, your pretty bloody good yourself ...  so I'm made up with the compliment .. Thanks

All the best

I thought that guitar sounded really good. I wouldn't have known it wasn't a real guitar if you hadn't said anything.

I would classify myself as above average, but I'd be lying if I thought any more of myself than that. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that there's a fantastic guitar player in almost every neighborhood in the world. Kids learn really fast these days with all those instructional videos. I don't read music. When I was a kid, all we had was a Mel Bay book of chords, and we were darn glad to have it!

I liked the song, the vocal and the guitar, as noted by others the rest did not quite work for me.

Bill....
If I said anymore there'd be a comment of 'get a room' ...

Like most of us here there's SO much talent that sometimes I think we should start the first 65 piece band,... BUT with One guy on skins 'cause drummers are a pain in the a rse when your trying to get a lick right, an they can't get there 16th/8th change right !!

Stay well

love this Steve - really restrained and understated.
My only nit - I'd love to read the lyrics
