Fantom VS (In VS-700 set) no sound

Seen this problem posted several times in the forum, but none of the solutions solve my problem:

Sonar Platinum (and sonar X2 32 and 64bit) on Windows 7 64bit

Installed all the latest drivers, no error messages, everything works perfectly except the Fantom does not produce sound on the "VS-700 Fantom VS" audio input.

I have added the synth to test projects various ways (synth track, separate midi and audio track, etc) - all give the same result - no audio coming in to record an the audio track.

I know MIDI is geting to the Fantom and the Fantom is functioning because if I load the "VS-700R I/O Editor" and raise the Fantom volume and set "Direct Mix Output" to "Main" or "Sub" I get audio from my monitor speakers, but nothing comes in to sonar that I can record.

I have the latest drivers installed, I found one conversation in the forum regarding register settings that sometimes don't get set - I have added these manually - no change.

I have tried this one both my computers (laptop and desktop - both adequate to the task - I have Sonar X2 Producer and Sonar Platinum installed on both machines, same symptoms on both.

I saw mention of the fantom VS being 32bit and not working well with 64bit, so installed Sonar X3 32bit on the laptop - same problem (even after adding the register entries for 32 bit installations)

Firmware updated to latest release (just in case that would help) and of course updated to latest drivers.

SO: I've tried this on 5 different installations: (Sonar X2 64bit and Sonar Platinum on the desktop - and sonar X2 32bit, Sonar X2  64 bit, and Sonar Platinum on the laptop) - and they all behave exactly the same.

PLEASE nobody suggest checking the audio devices or midi devices in preferences - every possible combination has already been tried either assigned or excluded.

I've explained to my computer and the VS-700 that they are both the offspring of unmarried canine parents repeatedly over the last couple of days that I've been up with this, and that hasn't helped either.

pls apologize but since no one responded with any better idea I have to ask ... are you positive it is not a routing issue in Sonar??? if you can get MIDI to the Fantom and can send its output to the direct monitoring, you should be able to route it into Sonar ... so pls double-check whether you have FANTOM checked in the input driver prefs, also check if you have direct monitoring enabled on Fantom MIDI and audio track ... I know this is pretty basic, but you never know ...

BTW, which way to utilize Fantom in Sonar are you employing: (A) simple MIDI track, plus audio track and instrument definition or (B) using the VSTi via insert synth ... option (A) is the direct access to Fantom if you want to use patches without changing settings, which is what I would try to get working first ... option (B) is what you need for the real stuff, but it involves the VSTi which (potentially) is an additional source for your troubles ...

Are you using instrument tracks (which I usually don't use) ... ??? Instrument tracks sometimes come with additional strange behaviour (some call it bugs), so if you use them, try once without (best would be option A from above for trouble shooting).
