Fashion Is Just Fashion
This song begs the question -- should fashion or fad dictate who you are? I believe the fictitious boys in the band have determined probably not. After all fashion is just fashion. Given my penchant for rhythm driven songs, I was attempting to do just that in this number. It also was my attempt to make this a Blues song but a wee bit of Rockabilly crept in. It's not the Blues and it's not Rockabilly --- so, I'll just call it another Bluesabilly song. It is sung sincerely but with a bit of tongue in cheek. I hope it gives you a bit of a smile. As always, your crit.'s, comments, suggestions, etc. are appreciated. Thanks. Fashion Is Just Fashion http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_music.cfm?bandID=963481

I've liked just about everything you posted, and this is no exception. I so love the rockabilly-surf vibe you've got happening here. I just wish I could hear the drums, they are almost completely buried so the groove is kind of lost in the haze of reverb. The vocals, as present as they are are also kind of overpowered by the driving rhythm parts, especially the bg vocals. I'd consider dialing back the reverb some to give the other parts a chance to breath, bring up the drums and leverage some judicious eq on the vocals and the rhythm guitar to carve out some space for each of the parts. Great stuff!

I really like the open sounding arrangment on this -- very pleasing to the ears. That said, I think the vocal gets a little lost with the electric guitar competing for space in the center -- perhaps lower the guitars panned l/r and move that center guitar a bit. Over than that, good one. !! Allan ====

Freddy does it again (stays in blues fashion). Maybe the mix is just a bit boomy or my ears are shot today.

Very sorry for the delay in responding. Unfortunately, my computer updated Windows 10 (April update). I say unfortunately because I ended up with a computer that was missing several files and a couple of my older programs. I was also horrified when I went to use Sonar to make your suggested improvements to this song. I could load the files but could not get the playback to work. Unfortunately, in my attempt to find a solution, Microsoft was not much help nor was Cakewalk. However, I was very impressed with the folks at Focusrite. They not only responded quickly but responded with a suggested solution which worked for the most part. I say that because I am still experience some crackling and popping on my system during any Sonar playback. I have been juggling the playback devices, buffer sizes, driver settings, etc. and playback has greatly improved but I still am getting the odd pop or crackle. I would appreciate very much if you could let me know if you hear any of these noises on your end. Thanks. Hi Kevin. Thanks for the great feedback. I have brought the drums and vocals up a bit and done some EQ-ing. I hope that what I have done has improved the sound a bit. Thanks again. Thank you Daryl for the kind comments. I was kind of hoping that the lyrics echoed the sentiment of "... to thine own self be true." Hi Allan. Thanks for listening and for your suggestions. I had moved the panning on the instruments around a bit -- I hope that helps. Hey Bapu. Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment. Hopefully, the EQ changes that I made will address the booming concern. Thanks again. Hi Antti. I appreciate your taking the time to listen and comment. Thanks for the kind words and encouragement.

Nice touch of the Freddy style here, I can not quite hear all the drums on this though Freddy, other than that cool stuff.

Just another clever lyrical twist with a solid blues foundation... Mix-wise the bottom + snare seems solid but for some reason seems to get a little lost here and there... similar to a side-chain effect. Weird. Still sounds good though, nice space around everything. The harmonies at the end were a nice touch!

Hi James. Thanks for the encouragement and for listening. Hi Wookie. I have been having all kinds of trouble since the April Windows Update. I have lost files, my printer stopped working as did Sonar and all sounds. I have the sounds back and Sonar working (thanks Focusrite staff); however, I am still experiencing a lot of popping and crackling during playback. After checking several internet sites (including the Cakewalk Software forum), I have come to the conclusion that lots of people are having problems since this update. This is a long way of telling you that I appreciate your suggestions concerning the drums and I will try and improve them as soon as I can get my sound problems fixed. Thanks again. Hey Steve. Thanks for listening and for the feedback. I especially appreciate the comment concerning the harmonies at the end. I was a bit worried about that. I will address the drum issue as soon as I can make some headway concerning the crackling and popping (see comments to Wookie above). Thanks for listening Makke and I appreciate the kind comments.

Freddy - this is really excellent. This sounds like it could be the next soundtrack tune in line for a James Bond movie. You have improved so much over the years - you always put out some of the most entertaining music - I could listen all day. Most excellent bro.

Thank you Lynn. Since I really don't know what I am doing, I count on you and the others on this forum for your help. "Freddybilly" -- hmmmm, the other day I was talking about the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend in April. He obviously became aware of my interest in Rockabilly (among other styles of music). After observing my enthusiasm, he called me the urban hillbilly hmmmm. I would love to do some jamming with you. I don't know if you have any ideas or preferences but if I can ever get the sound on my computer working properly, I might be able to recover a song or two that I might need some help with. Let me know. Mark. Hey my friend -- glad to see you back on the forum. Thanks for your kind words and encouragement. I really appreciate it. BTW, I love the new number that you posted. It is excellent and demonstrates your prowess on the guitar. Hi James. Thanks for listening and for the kind words. "Freddybilly", my own genre --- I have to chuckle about that. Thanks again.
