Fast Track Ultra/USB interface users...

I am on the cusp of a new interface, and by scouring the web I see that the "new" drivers for the Ultra no longer allow super (64) low latency in the "high performance mode". Is this still true?

According to Jim Roseberry in a few other threads, it looks like the only other viable, super low latency usb interfaces are either the RME stuff or the new Roland units? Anything I'm missing?
I am coming off an Echo PCI unit that has no trouble with extremely low latency, but has finally died and I don't want to move backwards.   Thx.

I have that option (High Performance Mode) disabled. I was having a few issues when I first installed the drivers on my new computer (when I went from XP to Windows 7) and disabling this was one of the recommended adjustments. Works flawless now, so I've left it un-checked.

I'm happy with the FTU. Preamps are good. Lots of inputs. Low latency. It doesn't seem real durable if you were going to be transporting it a lot - that would be my only "complaint". Mine rarely leaves my studio so that's not a huge issue for me.

Thx.  Mine will be pretty stationary as well.  Without that High Performance option on, do you have 64 sample option, or is the lowest 128?  This is almost academic question as 128 should serve me fine, but I'm now curious.

Not sure - I'll have to check. I know what I'm using isn't that low, but don't remember if it's an option without High Performance Mode...

I have a FT Ultra 8R, and I had a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40.  The FT Ultra 8R preamps are no where as goot or "transparent" as the Saffire Pro 40.  My Saffire Pro 40 went "belly up" and I've replaced it (last week) with a Roland Octa-Capture.  The Octa-Capture's preamps are on a par with the Saffire Pro 40 and operation seems to be better than either the FT Ultra 8R or the Saffire Pro 40.

I've tracked bass and acoustic (rhythm) guitar on CD project I'm doing for a local singer (10 songs).  I've also done some test vocal recordings using a Shure Beta 58 and an MXL 990 mics and the test vocal fidelity was very good.

The Octa-Capture is about $250 more than the FT Ultra 8R or the Saffire Pro 40.

The HP mode is not there anymore and 128 is the lowest now.

Thanks.  that is the info I was looking for.  Good chance I'll still end up with one, as it has lots of other goodies I want at a very good price.

In Sonar using my Echo interface, Asio reports a total round trip latency at 7.8 sec. when set at 128.  Is that about what you are seeing with the FTU?

At 128 and 96kHz I get a reported round trip latency of 5.0ms without hp mode (why they knocked this off frustrates me) on the FTU. Have not really given it a good run since loosing hp but seems to be working ok.
