Fastest way to play slices of an ACID-wav
When I drag'n'drop a rex file on RXP (or Rapture Pro), they play the whole loop at C3 and transpose the whole loop up and down an octave (old style sampling, i.e accelerating and decelerating). Beyond the upper octave, individual slices of the rex file are available, with much fun to play them in a different order (the pitch of each slice is that of the original loop) from my MIDI keyboard.
Similarly, I would like to play the individual slices of an ACID-wav. I see the slices in Loop Construction View (LCV), but drag'n'drop from LCV to Rapture Pro does not work, (and RXP is a rex player, so useless here). Which is the fastest way to trigger individual slices out of an ACID-wav in Sonar and its tools?
I know that I might cut the slices from the clip by hand, bounce to clip and drag to Rapture Pro or even Session Drummer if slices < 12, or better bounce the whole loop to clip, engage audiosnap, then save separated clips from the audiosnap palette and drag to the samplers, but it's annoying me that slices are already there in the ACID-wav, perhaps put in some intelligent and well thought manner, so why have I to save to audio and re-do the slices (meaning adjusting markers in audiosnap to replicate the "well-thought" manner)? UVI workstation is free and will let you play back slices of acid loops or there is battery which im pretty sure can also work with acid loops and map the slices to pads with drag & drop functionality. other than that there is cyclone which is old as the hills and didnt really work too well for me when i tried it for the same thing.

Autosnap is the easiest way I know of

There is a very simple and fast way to do what the OP wants . It doesn't involve AudioSnap. See tomorrow's "Friday's Tip of the Week" for details - it's a technique the complements the previous week's tip on using the Matrix View as a sampler.

While waiting for Friday's tip, Cyclone is an option. Been around for a long time (and looks it). There it a tiny tutorial in the knowledge base. I believe the wav used in the tutorial is still included with Platinum.

Thanks everybody!! I didn't expect 4 advices in few hours! UVI Workstation or any free little sampler might be an option if I don't find anything inside Sonar, which I'd prefer. Cyclone I loved it 10 years ago and I did beautiful things with irregular rythms, but now it's old and doesn't digest my 24bit libraries. Brr, looking forward to see tomorrow's friday's tip, I will hardly sleep tonight!! You know, when something gets stuck in your mind..

I was curious to see the solution, since "fast" was a prereq. If using samples from rex files is something you will do often (like a core work flow), demoing Geist would be worth seeing. That is third party, but it imports, slices and assigns to pads automatically (rex files). It is mostly identified as a step sequencer, but for working with samples has better functionality than most DAWs and can be run stand alone or as a VSTi. Also be advised that Geist also goes on sale pretty regularly at substantial (often 60% off) discounts. Simply extracting slices is only a small part of the picture, and Geist has the step sequencer and audio engine to manipute those efficiently. Again, this is not a SONAR solution, but significantly faster.

Geist is indeed fantastic. But please read my additional post in the tips thread about "automatic" assignments, which I specifically do not want with Acidized files for the reasons mentioned in the post. The OP specifically mentioned Acidized files and that requires a different solution than what works best for REX files.

I agree with you Craig. Although the thread title doesn't state it, the OP does specifically say "in SONAR." Without knowing workflow or other details, options outside of SONAR may not be required nor desired, but it is worth mentioning what is available for future reference.

If I may ask, how are you applying trimming ? Are you using destructive clip editing in preferences ? Because normally wouldn't you end up with the whole slice, plus the slices slip edited data ? Great tip (using the tab). I like this. I typically select Autosnap and chop that way.

Great Craig, answered!! ACID wav, within Sonar. Slices from an ACID drum loop, dragged and dropped to session drummer3, worked brilliantly (the slices take life with velocity sensitive pads); also an ACID loop sustained pitched slice, dragged and dropped into an empty oscillator in Rapture Pro, worked even more brilliantly (with transposition I played a whole melody out of a note). For auditioning I understood the SHIFT+SPACEBAR, but I prefer opening Loop Construction View and audition there, because the split command does exactly what LCV plays and in LCV you listen before slicing, so you can also edit. Thanks a lot, I was lucky I posted a question that was about to be answered in a weekly tip!!!!
