I'm getting a fatal error when trying to open a project. this is only occurring with one project. I tried opening in safe mode and disabling plugs but still happening. any ideas?

Was there a specific error message associated with the failure to open?

Any Windows Event or Sonar dump info created when it failed to open?

Was this project created in a prior version of Sonar?

    Different maintenance release?

    Anything different about it?

If it was originally created in a 32-bit Sonar, are you trying now to open in a 64-bit Sonar?

Is Sonar at current maintenance levels?

Is Windows at current maintenance levels?

Just trying to get a better bead on the nature of the situation and of the project in question.  :)

    Yes, Exception code 000005
    Yes, crash dump file created
No, this was created in Sonar Platinum
    Same maint release
I don't think there's anything different. I'm cutting drum tracks today and was setting up routing before I closed it.
My avatar info is out of date. I'm running 64bit now. new computer. Sweetwater creation station.
My command center is all green, up to date.
I have not updated windows in a while.
    Thanks for the help!

That code sounds like an access violation - maybe a permissions thing, OR maybe there are C++ or other run-time routines that are either new or are needing to be updated because Sonar is relying on them being at a certain maintenance level.

I would in general suggest you consider keeping Windows up to current maintenance levels and then see if that fixes things up a bit.  I have seen that be the case in several cases in the past.  If Windows maintenance at current levels were causing widespread issues, you would see a bunch of posts about it, and since that is not the case, I would suggest you would be in good shape to go ahead and apply any missing maintenance - others have, with success.  :)

Windows updates may help. Since a dump is created, tech support should be able to diagnose the problem. I am guessing autosave and versioning are not enabled.

It may be necessary to run the Windows update a few times to get current.

+1 on running Windows Update multiple times - think of the maintenance like an onion.  Every time you apply a set of maintenance, is like adding a layer to an onion.  Then you run it again, because there will likely be another set of updates to apply, that couldn't be applied until the prior set of maintenance was applied - and you get another layer of the onion, and so on, until there are no more updates to apply - no more layers to the onion, and you are then current.

It might take the better part of a dozen runs, depending on how far behind on maintenance you are.  Just be patient and run it to let it do its thing.

No good. I installed all updates but still getting the error. I sent to crash file to Cake so maybe they'll come up with something. luckily I recently backed up and was able to pull out a copy of that song from my backup drive to finish todays session.

K - thanks for the update, even though it's a bummer.  Glad you had a version you could pull up.
