I have a lot of resistance to the idea that people can be stupid... so I tend to err in the other direction when I react to friction caused by misunderstandings.

I think my comment above is not really accurate.  there's a big difference between intelligence and "common sense."  I've found that a lot of people lack common sense when it comes to logical conclusions to their actions or decisions.  this is not necessarily dependent on their "level of intelligence."  very intelligent people can have severly limited "common sense" and very limited intelligence people can have more common sense than those with high IQs.

I often shake my head and wonder "what was he/she thinking?" when I know that that person is not "stupid" at all.

"A composer is a guy who goes around forcing his will on unsuspecting air molecules, often with the assistance of unsuspecting musicians."

"Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe."

"A drug is not bad. A drug is a chemical compound. The problem comes in when people who take drugs treat them like a license to behave like an ****."

"The Ultimate Rule ought to be: 'If it sounds GOOD to you, it's ****in'; if it sounds BAD to YOU, it's ****ty. The more your musical experience, the easier it is to define for yourself what you like and what you don't like. There are a LOT of Zappa quotes that I like and think are spot on, but this is my favorite:

I'm sure it's been said many times, but I first heard it from my Business & Finance teacher in High School.
