Favorite pickups?
I can never decide between the two. #1) Well hey there, do you realize it's 32 miles to the next gas station? #2) 1969 Ford F100 What's yours?

Mike I bought a '72 Ford shortbed, no-air, 3 on the tree some years back. It was perfect for hauling rocks and construction type duties. Not a truck to haul around people. I restored it and built a 302 with electronic timing so it would run and look good. I few months back I mentioned a guy selling a 2002 GMC (3-door) SLE Sierra with 50,000 miles in mint condition....well I got it. (cheap...lucked out with a good deal and that doesn't happen often) Well I get to work and a peer starts telling me of hard luck case..his son-in-law and he's looking for a truck to buy for him to help out. So, yeah I pitch-in a very nice '72...lol. The guy goes nuts...I think he's about polished off the paint lol. Great feeling though...I got years of service from it, learning experience building motor and such, and helping some folks out with a great deal. My wife has taken ownership of the GMC....it's loaded and has a towing package which is great for towing the Harley if needed.....so I'm left walking or asking if I can borrow her truck LOL. After that old truck and a few other restorations and years..don't think I'll be restoring any more. Was fun though.

I have a 1965 Chevy Step side I'm trying to restore. It was a 6 with a manual and the PO put a 350 and 700r4 auto in it. Ive since put A/C and heat, Power steering, power brakes and front disc brakes, headders, Pentronix ignition, Holly 650, electric fans, and AutoMeter gauges. It needs body work which is not my expertise so the project is at a standstill.

I grew up in that 1969 I wistfully mentioned. My wife and I have really been enjoying driving out in the woods with mobile phone/satellite mapping. It's been more fun than ever. I've been thinking about an old jeep so we can drive around without a top. :-)

'71 F100. Green and white. Armstrong steering. Dual glasspacks, 302. Loud as heck. It sat dead in my dad's driveway for a while, and he said if I could get it running, I could have it. I checked it out, and the carb was shot. Slapped on a new one, and off she went. Man, that was a great truck.

The guy I (gave)sold it to sent me photos. He removed the Harley tire cover and other HD stuff but oh well.. You probably like this Robert lol not much difference from 71. This truck would run too but I didn't push it. Glass packs too...low rumble. People would look under to see what I had done to get that sound...always missing the resonators. Robert you may notice the "Sport Custom" on the bed. Don't see those much. Only one 'round here. Nissan white I think. I told the guy that painted it to do what he wanted, I didn't care. You guys lost me with jacks and booze..? Oh..for those that don't know...the gas tank is behind the seat! I never got comfortable with that. Ya, that's the gas cap by the door.

That is one fine pick up truck. My dad used to take me out on Saturdays in his aqua and white two ton version. It had that great country music 3" mono speaker up on the dash. Mercy.

Nice, Spacey. Mine was clean, but not quite that pretty. I had the "Custom" logo, but no "Sport". It had the 8' bed. That wrap around hood was great when you had to work on the engine. It had a nice low rumble while idling, but when you got on the gas, it sounded like a B-17. My gas tank was in the same place. I just tried not to think about it. Why, oh why, did they get rid of vent wings?

I took it to a shop to have the brakes done. When I'd call to ask how it was coming they'd give some story about being busy. A guy told me I better go check on my truck...I get there and it's taken apart! I asked the painter what was going on and he said don't look a gift horse in the mouth...I smiled and left. They didn't mess around either...took it down to metal and worked it from frame up. Unreal. I couldn't use it for work around the house so it sat in the backyard for a few years. I figured there would be somebody that it would help out. Funny how something like an old truck can give somebodies life a kick-start. The guy now has a great ride and pride to get his butt to work. Cool. I'll never forget his face after the first time he took it for a ride...we could see him smiling a block from the house..he pulled up and said, this baby will run too! We heard him...we heard blocks away too! I think the guys at the shop new what I'd be doing with the truck...and wanted to be part of more than a brake job. They know where it went.

My son and some friends found this another similar one basically in junk piles (this was when we lived overseas.) It took months of loving labor and fun to get it to this point. This bright green wasn't what any of us had in mind, but we couldn't change it after it was ordered. (my part in the whole deal was to supply food and drinks...and a whole lot of sanding.) They so badly wanted to bring it home with them, but sold it for about what they had in it. I imagine it was worth the fun and experience and the few times they got to drive it anyway.

I learned to drive on my dad's '75 Chevy 1/2 ton and so I have always had a fondness for pickups (as had my dad). I never had a pickup myself and when kids came along they were just not "convenient" for the family and even when they started making 4 door pickups - they were just too expensive for our family to be a reality for me. but after the youngest was 15 and got his permit I decided the time was right for a pickup. It's paid for now and mine. not nearly as "cool" as Micheal's above, or Robert's description of his. but it's mine and I love it. not the best pic - but it's all I have right now (that's RobertB in the foreground)

OH! I completely forgot until just now!!! when I was 18 I had a '73 Monte Carlo - the one with the hugely long hood. 2 seater with captain's chairs and a 350 4 barrell. anyway - the transmission kept giving me fits. so while I was dropping and replacing the transmission (which ended up taking months), my friend loaned me his '55 pickup. 3 on the tree, rattled, leaked, windshield wipers didn't work (I had to pull a string back and forth in the cab to "manually" run the wipers!). but I loved it!!! NOTICE: this isn't the truck - I don't have a pic of it - this is very similar to what I was driving:

Guitarhacker spacey My wife has taken ownership of the GMC....it's loaded and has a towing package which is great for towing the Harley if needed.....so I'm left walking or asking if I can borrow her truck LOL. Walking?...and you have a Harley? What's wrong with this picture? LOL...well not really but ya, if there's ice hanging off the side of the house! (I have a little GT car that hits close to 40mpg to get back and forth to work...turbo 4cyl that gets it) Just that I used to have an old truck and somehow it all ended with two other people winding up with trucks. Well pictures sure don't tell it all (in the case of mine). They are fun and tuff trucks but they are also ruff. Mine wasn't good for much other than hauling rocks and such. Sure didn't want to go cruisin' in it...no-air, no power steering, no power brakes and everybody knows thats messed with a 3 speed on the column...you spend to much time trying to get it timed and when you think you have- it locks at the light. Of course one good thing is not many people will even think about stealing it LOL. Most don't even know how to shift it! So this last time it was restored they were nice to do it but made it of no use to me. So I parked it and let it wait for a new owner. He took a good pic too...I don't remember it looking that good lol.
