Fear of VST3 and the mistakes it caused
I love my console 1 and had a few gripes about how it integrated with SPLAT - that is until I tried the VST 3 plugin. Wonderful communications - track names, pans, volumes.... all controlled with the C1 in SPLAT. I had no idea. Now I am wondering what I have missed in my countless other plugins. For the most part, I never installed the VST3s because I thought that was a Qbase thingy and just ignored it. Now I am at least partially seeing what I have missed. Of course, I got Melodyne in VST3 so I could do the clip effect thing. What wonders are out there awaiting a soul brave to sail the VST3 seas? Or is it still novel?
Some people call me Maurice SPLAT Pro lifetime, ADK 6 core 3.6Ghz with 32 GB RAM, SSD 1TB system drive, 3 3TB regular drives for samples, recordings and misc. Behringer X Touch, UAD Apollo Quad. 2 UAD2 Quads PCI (i think - inside the box whatever that is), Console 1. More guitars (40??) and synths (hard and soft) than talent. Zendrum!!!

The experience varies but in general if provided you should definitely install and use the VST3 version of plugins. While many plugin vendors just use standard VST2 features under VST3, there have been various extensions to VST3 that some plugins take advantage of. Console One is such an example but there are many others that use VST3 specific features such as Softube, Waves etc.

I agree completely with Noel's comment. It is rare these days that the VST3 version of a plugin is not as solid as the VST2 version, so you should use it be default. Regards, Dan

I haven't had any trouble with VST3 for a long time now. I think they are very stable.

I jumped on the VST 3 train as early as possible (back when Cakewalk first introduced it). And I have been happy ever since. Never really had any issues at all.

I wouldn't do a total reboot just to install any VST 3 plug ins you have. VST 2 is still great. Just don't be afraid to install them in the future.

The only problem I have run into with VST3 is the u-he synths. Based on a posted FAQ I read a while back, apparently Urs is still wrangling the code for his VST3 plugins. He recommends sticking with his VST2 until he gets it worked out. https://www.u-he.com/cms/faqs#know-vst3-issues

Hi. I have installed the Vst3 version of all the plugins (exept SPAN, that has caused me some issues) that have that option since it became available. Welcome to the true power of Console 1 All the best.

bapu I'm so happy with VST3 I can hardly wait to see what VST4 does.
It'll probably do the same thing - just with a monthly subscription and patch Tuesday auto-updates You will have to wait until VST5 to be able to use stock price trends and weather forecast as morph source ... and rumour has it that VST6 will then be bidirectional as regards morph and previously named external sources ...

With some VSTs, your only choice is to use the VST3 version. For example the VST2 version of Diffuse by Surreal Machines causes Sonar to hang, but the VST3 version is absolutely fine.
