Feature Request: 'Save' button on control bar!
Unless I am missing something, the only way to save a project in Sonar X1 is to go File - Save, right? I would really, really like to have a SAVE button in the control bar. I know someone will suggest I use Autosave, but that ain't gonna happen - it interferes with playback and recording and is just not a viable option. And while we're at this, it would be nice to be able to put some frequently used commands, like Quantize, or Length, into that vacant space in the control bar. That would let us 'undock' these commands from the Process menu, and put them anywhere we want. Maybe into the pop-up that shows when you right click in the track view. Thanks

I would also like a save button on the control bar. I use ctrl+S now, but i would still like the option. I get the feeling that I'm working with someone elses setup when using Sonar X1. In 8.5 I had everything setup the way i wanted it - customised. Now it feels like I'm stuck with someone elses idea of how I should work. I'm sure this has probably been said before. Maybe I've missed something?

Ctrl+S is lightning fast. I do it every three-four minutes when the project is advancing rapidly. Make a habit of it: The same way you pull you hair back or scratch your nose, click Ctrl+S just to be sure :o) Absolutely no need to add another button in the UI for something like that, because finding the button with the mouse and clicking it is slower than Ctrl+S.

Ok, there is a great solve for this - download the Sonarhelper at Sonarhelper.com. It gives you a new toolbar that you can float anywhere, and you can customize its buttons. This is a must-have for Sonar! Thanks Ben!

What I think would be nice is to have a save-as button or shortcut that would automatically number the file sequentially.

g_randybrown What I think would be nice is to have a save-as button or shortcut that would automatically number the file sequentially. This is already available. What it does is everytime you save, it saves a version with a differnt timestamp. But to the user it looks like you are overwriting the original file. Works great. Now everytime you save, it's like a save as with a timestamp. Preferences-File-Advanced-Enable Versioning of project If you need to go back to one of these saved versions, you need to go into the folder that contains them and remove the time stamp from the file name by renaming it. Remove everything to the right of .cwp For example: My Song.cwp.~2011-01-30-17-59-13-424 becomes My Song.cwp, but I would rename it as well.

I'm a "Control S" person myself, but I also bind the save to the Number Pad ENTER key. All the number pads are open for custom bindings. As long as you have a keyboard with a number pad, that is one of the easiest and largest keys to hit in a hurry - instantly saving the project. I find this (and even the Control S) to be much faster than moving a mouse to find a button - however I do understand that some users don't like to use the keyboard. I so no reason why it isn't in the Control Bar, but if you want it now the Sonar Helper is certainly the answer!

I wonder, does it use the same audio data folder? I'd still like a Save As, sometimes you start with a "dummy" project that needs a whole new identity on Save, other times you want to fork off from a version to a new project. Seems like it would be completely trivial to make a "Files" module that has all these buttons on it. Those who want it can turn it on and those who don't can forget it.

I would like have save and save as buttons. But make it configuarble so the mouse haters can turn it off. The disapearing toolbars are the main reason I have not upgraded yet, but as has been mentioned Bensats Sonar Helper is there for those who find it quicker to click a button than reach over an use the keyboard.

CTRL-S rules. Its the fastest way and it works in every Windows program. Its a lot faster than moving the mouse, and pressing the button and then moving back to where you were.

Although I'm usually a CTRL+S person, I've found myself really missing the Save button on the toolbar. I would enable that menu in previous versions of SONAR when the default was to hide it. If I'm in the flow of working with my mouse -- which is most of the time when I'm working in SONAR -- it's distracting have to use the keyboard for a two-key action, when I could just zip my pointer to the Save button, click, then continue working. I think it's a mistake that Cakewalk removed this functionality. I would rather hide a module I don't particularly use in favor of a File Management module than not to have the choice at all.

A sort of error proof.. If that is true, than that seems a bit silly. Ctrl+S can also "prematurely" save a project if you meant to hit "Ctrl+A" to select all tracks or "Ctrl+X" to cut a highlighted something and hit the "save" by accident. Both of those shortcut keys are right next to "Ctrl+S". I do hope they give us the option to put the save on the control bar as I've used that forever with earlier versions. As others have stated, make it something that the user can add and leave it off by default then. Tom

I'm often moving many notes with the mouse on the piano roll and having to go to the keyboard or an extra menu is a stupid hassle. Never remove a feature unless you've checked with the community. I also hate having to go through an extra menu to pick tracks.

I found the lack of a save icon odd, but since i use the V-Studio 700, I have a save button on the console. Otherwise, i would be annoyed by the missing icon. Interestingly, my daughter knows what the save icon is, but has never actually seen a floppy disk. Same way she knows that dial, hang-up, and ring relate to phones although she's never seen a dial or a hook, and her ring is a WAV file.
