Feature request: Track search feature
Hey all! It would be awesome to have a track search (track find) feature to find or filter out tracks, much like Cubase has (introduced in v7 in 2013). It would make finding tracks in big projects much quicker! There is a suggestion for it made on the Bakery, check it out below: Track Search or Track Find in Track view menu http://bakery.cakewalk.com/Idea/14701/Track-Search-or-Track-Find-in-Track-view-menu#14914 Explanation of featureFrom the Sound On Sound review in Feb 2013: "For those who work with large track counts, Cubase 7's handy track search function might be worth the price of the upgrade alone. As you type into the search field, the list of tracks displayed is filtered to show only those containing the search string." What do you guys reckon?

Thanks for your input! :) Well I would think there are a lot of users working with large projects who'd benefit from this. Maybe the Bakers could squeeze this in between all the constant comping enhancements? :)

Between Track Folders and Track Sort, I don't really have any problem finding tracks as long as I name them properly.

I would like something along the lines of the 'track list' in Studio One. (on the left). Pro tools has something similar.

Track Manager lists all tracks and buses, in a window that you can move around anywhere (like to a second monitor). You can also highlight muted, archived, and frozen tracks if you're curious which tracks have those attributes. For a quickie you can just use Shift + Z when you want to see track headers only.

RESQ - Great, I'm glad you found this post! :) Yeah, it's a really cool feature in Cubase 7 that Sound on Sound's reviewer Mark Wherry really liked! ("...might be worth the price of the upgrade alone") Anderton - Thanks for the tips, and I'm glad you have a workflow that works for you! :) Sometimes, though, one can really find use for a feature one previously never thought one would need... ;) Now, I'm really thrilled to install the final 2017.04, I'm extra curious about the transform tool's scale, stretch & ramp tricks (that no one has mentioned so far?!). If they behave like in Cubase, this is going to be a major MIDI update! :D

I for one would like to see this window dockable in the browser.

Curious as to why. Is this really something you need to refer to so much that it's not enough just to open the Track Manager and locate the track, or hit shift+z to collapse all the headers temporarily? I did notice that the feature request mentioned projects with 234 tracks. In that case I can see how being able to type a search string could be handy, although with 234 tracks I don't know if I would remember all their names so I would know what to type to find them I think if the tracks are organized properly to begin with in terms of names and folders, then the Sort function would likely be good enough to find a track easily. I always make the first few characters of a name the most important identifiers because control surfaces usually can't display long names, so Sort works for me. (Although I don't always Sort on name...other attributes like Muted and Output can come in pretty handy.) Then again my projects rarely exceed 120 tracks.

Well, for one thing, the hidden track dialog is small and you have to scroll through it. The browser is much longer. I mean couldn't the same be said for the new track pane in the PRV? Why not just have a pop-up dialog for that?

In S1 and PT and mixbus you click on a track in their 'track manager thingy' and the track is located and highlighted in the track/console view ready for mangling. No scrolling. I see Cakewalk's TM as more of a semi-permenant solution whereby things are organized for the long run. Plus it disappears. S1 and PT etc. it is more of a current real time solution to navigation and organization that doesn't disappear unless you want it to.

Personally my projects are no more than 30-40 tracks per project and I navigate fine through my projects, but I could see how a feature like this could be helpful. What I do is use the Console view (With Narrow tracks) to locate tracks I need and click on them to show the track I want to see in TV. So I can totally understand where you are coming from. But remember even if it is in the Browser, its more one thing to take up space/or open and close) But still, I could see the possibility's.
