What graphics card are you using? I have Sonar installed on 2 systems, a desktop and a laptop, and they behave the same way - no blue just 2 very slightly different shades of gray depending on if the FX is enabled or not. Both have ATI/AMD chipsets.

Well, at least now I know I am not the only one that doesn't get the blue highlighted FX button when the FX window is open and focused in Track or Console view. It wasn't a big deal, so I never reported it or contacted Cakewalk support. When I installed the 32 and 64 bit versions of Platinum "Braintree" earlier this year, I could have sworn that the 32-bit version did highlight blue and the 64-bit version did not (maybe bad recall). Now in "Ipswich", both 32 and 64 bit versions do not highlight. Running NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT video card on Windows 7 x64. -- Ron

It seems that Bakers developed reasonable system of "two shade of grey/two shades of blue" as Craig presented at the top of this thread but it is avaiable to only few of us. The rest like me has only two greys. Now It needs to be checked why is that happening, graphic cards perhaps?

This explains why some people say "I dunno, looks okay to me" and others say "I can't tell the difference." Very, very weird IMHO. It also raises the philosophical question of how do you know something is wrong if you don't know it actually is wrong.

Doesn't reflect having four states...then again, if you don't know there are supposed to be four states... OTOH I couldn't live with that. It would be a constant reminder that I could be eating mint chocolate chip ice cream

A bleary eyed pop in just to say I'll try to check out the Blue "selected" thing on my system tomorrow. I was not aware of it before this thread so I may have just not noticed. That WOULD be odd considering all the Rack stuff I've done but I am a bit of a derp herder at times.

You have discovered the "platinum record" button in Console View, right? That's why it's called the Platinum version.

First one has to read the manual. With Sonar 2015 you also need to read the Ezine to keep up to date. When things don't seem to match the manual or the Ezine its time to come here and ask.

Well I may have solved this blue button dilemma. I did some digging in the manual and it says that effects that are in focus using ACT are highlighted blue when in focus. That is the only time I could find that mentions the color being blue, so maybe the ones that are seeing the blue are using a control surface and those like me who do not will not see blue.

Beepster Yeah, the graytones have been a problem here as well. I am constantly having to click power buttons in the rack to see if they get lighter or darker to make sure they are indeed on or off. Not a great situation. I've never seen the blue thing which is weird because... well I should have at this point. Is that new in Ipswich? I would MUCH rather have the blue be the "On" indicator and gray as "Off"... more like how it used to be in the FX Bin which was much easier to see what was active. I like the rack... but the grayscale stuff needs to be fixed. I'd also like an option to disable the vertical expansion (in favor of scrolling like the old Bin had) for when I don't want the rack taking up as much vertical space (eg: when I'm not actually futzing around with FX).
I'm also in favor of Beepster's remedy! I don't really need an indicator for when I have an fx window open, since I can see that fx window(s). :) However, I can understanding having indicators for fx that are assigned to a controller AND for those with assigned automation (the latter would be much more useful to my work flow). I think I smell a feature request.

The mystery deepens...there's no control surface connected to this computer, and I'm clearly see the four states.

My active plug-ins turn a very pale blue when I hover the mouse over them: Is that what's supposed to happen? Edit to add, that's when the plug-in is both active and open:

I'm seeing exactly the same as you Steve, whether the plugin gui is open or not, and no control surface connected. Just 2 shades of grey (on/off) but a faint blue with mouse hover
