Features you would like to see in an update

Maybe you have some wishes. I'll start.

VS 700c:

- to be able to scroll and zoom in the PRV
- meters working at instrument tracks
- to be able to create SENDs at instrument tracks
- to be able to control more than 8 Layers (using fader bank +/- 8 buttons)
- to be able to create a bus (using e.g. command + track)
- to be able to delete a track
- to be able to insert audio effects to instrument tracks

    - More accurate zoom in on now time.
    - Get act to work with hidden tracks.
    - make T-bar work with 32-bit plugins in a 64-bit environment.

Some good suggestions there... I'd also like to see more customization options, like the ability to use the SHIFT, CTRL, ALT and COMMAND buttons for more than 16 custom button assignments.

I love my V-700 setup and these are all very good suggestions with which I concur, but squealie, you've hit on a couple of important points for me, especially the 64-bit Fantom support; there is no excuse for that oversight and it is way past time for Cakewalk to resolve it.  I'll add to your suggestions re: monitoring by including a suggestion that tracks should be able to be assigned to outputs 1-8 in the direct monitor mixer so that people like me can take advantage of monitoring setups a little more like what I'm used to in a studio.  When I bought the V-Studio for my personal project studio, I had a Furman HDS-6 headphone monitoring system that I and clients really liked as it allowed them some individual control over multiple inputs (up to 6) in their headphone monitor mix.  Now this very nice HDS-6 monitoring system can't be used as intended anymore (or it could be I just haven't figured out how to make it work); a real sore point for me.  I think this could be resolved with a software or firmware update.  Don't get me wrong everyone, I really do love my setup and by no means regret the purchase (I'm a big fan); however, I think the monitoring arrangement could use some major improvement (IMHO) as it is a little limited now.  I believe someone else has already brought this up before on the forum.  Sorry for being so wordy :)  Keep on making music!........Later

I would like to see the RSS 3D and spacialization technology that Roland introduced some years ago be included with Sonar; and azimuth and elevation controlled by the the T Bar while the Doppler effect can be controlled by the rotary dial. I am hoping Sonar 9 will be evolved to a complete audio/video/animation solution and become the standard in the audio and video recording/editing/mastering arenas. 3D audio imaging through stereo speakers or headphones would be yet another feature that will put Cakewalk by Roland far far ahead of every other Recording-Mixing-Mastering software company on the planet. This, of coarse, is just my opinion; but, 3D and animation is big and getting bigger in content, products, and opportunities.

I would like to see USB connection points for Midi keyboard controllers on the V700C, allowing a straighter path for CC messages when using a controller. There is a bit of a lag in the movement of the motorized faders when using a controller through the computer-Sonar-V700C. In essense, the controller would become a sub control surface to the V700C allowing adjustments without leaving the playing position. It should be no big problem to send all the controller Midi data via USB. Yes? No?

I'd like to see a smaller version of the console with just the transport controls and AUX input.  I've had the V-Studio for a year now and not once used the faders and 90% of the buttons available.  I'm a keyboard/mouse guy and always will be, so the board is just there creating clutter besides the useful AUX input.  At least it looks cool.

They also need more outputs than just the Main and Sub out.  I do lots of re-amping, so it's a pain to get behind the unit to send an output to my X-AMP device.  I switched to the V-Studio from a MOTU 24I/O; I loved how I had 24 outputs and I'd like to see Cakewalk go in that direction.

It sounds like you may have wanted the V-Studio 100 instead.

Also, the 700 does have additional outputs... 10 analog, plus more via digital.

Top of my list: much more flexible direct monitoring capabilities! You should be able to route any and all inputs to any and all outputs via direct mixer. Maybe a generic reverb in the direct mixer with level controls for each input to wetten up the headphone mix during tracking.

If I could see one thing fixed, it's this... I'm slightly more than annoyed that I have to wait until Windows loads my desktop, then switch on the V-Studio gear in order for it to be recognized. On a side note, maybe I'm lucky, but I have no problem using the V-700R Fathom in 64 bit mode.

Perhaps it's a Mac, X64 or bootcamp issue, but if you turn on the V700R and C before you boot the DAW, it should be recognized as your default audio device. Provided of course you have designated it as the default device in the windows sound options. This works in 32 bit Win 7 on an Intel based board. Have you tried that?

I got another one regarding the instrument tracks, which seem to be flawed in general:

    - let me insert audio effects from the VS700c to instrument tracks (right now, only MFX are available)

I would like to be prompted by SONAR if I forget to turn on the VS700C console before I start SONAR, instead of it permanently forgetting its connection to control surface.

I'm not seeing this behavior either, it may be a Bootcamp issue. My main issue is with SONAR not being smart enough to warn you that the default configured audio device is not found (as in turned off) and continuing to load, instead of giving you a chance to turn it on before continuing to load.

    Yes that would be awesome!

Maybe also a "virtual loop" like in my older M-Audio 1814.  Each direct channel have it's own fx send and every input and output combinations can be used to create a "direct loop". Simple but very useful!

Hello. I actually prefer to run the on-board audio as my default device for web browsing, etc. other apps.

But as it is, if I turn everything on and boot the computer, not only does it not recognize either the 700 or the 100, it also causes problems with other USB devices on different ports, so for example the keyboard doesn't get recognized if either 100 or 700 is turned on before the desktop fully loads. But if I turn either on after Windows 7 - 64 loads, no problems at all. I can even run both at once using ASIO for all.

Here's all the devices running off the 5 USB ports on my system - It's admittedly pretty stacked but that's how I roll :) Only the V-Studio gear is behaving this way for me. Not a huge deal but still a bit annoying.

    USB) Virus Ti2 Desktop, Kore 2, V-Studio 100, V-Studio 700C/R

On a powerd Dynex DX Hub23 - 4 way hub)
*Qwerty Keyboard (Ilok, E-Licenser) Novation 49SL MlII, Nord G2X, Last open port used for either Iphone4 or Samson Go Mic depending on what I'm doing.

    (Mouse is Bluetooth) Thank God!

More and more I'm thinking it's a 64 bit thing. You say when you turn "everything" on and then boot the computer you have problems. Have you tried turning on the V700C and V700R then booting the computer and then turning on the other devices once the desktop is loaded. If I turn on things in this order in 32 bit everthing comes up recognized and functional.
I'm not sure what to tell you about using the onboard audio for other functions. You should set the V700R as your default device in Win 7.

Full 700-R control from the console is #1 on my list, too.

    Followed by:
    Nested track folders
Ability to use Friendly Names on the VS-700 Contol app.

I'm not sure how to word this, but the I'd like the 700-C to default (load the app, if necessary) to the Control App I/O Mixer mode when Sonar isn't running, including displaying all the input names and settings on the Console.

    Please?

    1. Inputs to ADAT would be very cool for one....hmm, haven't actually tried it yet now I think of it. Maybe it works?
    2. Better IO control via the 700C would also be good. Very laggy and a little clunky... slow data throughput maybe?

There's more but I have a project to finish...

    [Edit 1:]
    3. Ability to add modifiers (like Scott) says. You should definitely be able to modify existing ACCESS PANEL buttons IMO. Would add so much more mouse free functionality.

    4. Possible to declunk the editing method a bit? Getting away from mouse editing is difficult to learn... less control key combinations would be great along with perhaps a new overlay.

    5. Editable ACCESS PANEL overlays (or a template) would be very useful.
