Fermatta midi timing issue

Hello All, I created a score with sibelius and imported it as a midi.  I right clicked the file and chose "open with" and chose sonar.  It opens and plays just fine, but a fermatta in the first bar caused the entire score to shift over by a 16th not making the use of the metronome impossible.  Is this how a fermatta is usually handled.  Should it not add the extra time to bar with the fermatta.  Does anyone know how to correct this?

Not sure about correcting the issue, but I believe at a fermatta, generaly you double the length....

I always just did tempo changes to slow it down and reset it when the fermata has lasted long enough. Not and exact thing but it works for me.

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.

Yup, that's how the prv works. It's notation to midi, so there will be instances like that because midi was built as a representation of notes so that is technically an accurate representation of what's happening.

Some Googling indicates that Sibelius does this as well, but apparently there are cases (versions?) where it will put the tempo changes in a track other than track 1. MIDI type 1 files actually have 17 tracks where the first one is supposed to be dedicated to key signature, time signature and tempo information. Apparently some other MIDi players support having tempo changes in other tracks but it's outside the standard and SONAR does not.

I would have expected that to result in a project that shows notes on the musical grid and is just missing the tempo changes that produce the fermata. So I'm not sure why notes after the fermata would be shifted later in the timeline, but anything is possible if the file format is non-standard.

I would check the Sibelius documentation or their forum for more info.

what version of sibelius are you using? i just tried this with 7 export to midi and import to x3 and what happens is sibelius changes the time signature to adapt the midi for the fermata.  i had a simple 2-bar phrase in 3/4 time with 6 quarter notes and a fermata on the fifth, and the sibelius export changed the time signature at that beat to 7/8 and back to 3/4 at the end of the phrase.  if you give me more to go on about what you're doing compositionally i can try to recreate it...
