Audio files should always be stored in "per project" folders. The only exception I can think of is, if your audio files are not unique to that project, and you do not wish to make copies of the same file(s) in different locations on your system drive(s). The main reason is,(of course),to keep audio information,(audio files),together with project information,(project files). This not only keeps things tidy and is less of a problem for SONAR to find the proper files when needed, but also easier, and avoids losing, or leaving out, information (files) when saving projects. You can easily designate exactly which folder and where the files/folders are to be stored using the project/app preferences dialogue. Always make sure to not forget to select the "Save Per Audio Project" check box at the bottom of the "Save As" dialogue when actually saving.
