Final...final...final version of my track. Shot in the studio.

Hi everyone,

I posted this track a while ago but it wasn't really the final version. (Still had to replace the programmed drums with real ones)

I've now managed to complete everything (live drums etc). I used Rapture for all the string effects and the Lounge Lizard for the piano parts. Interesting thing I found was that Rapture used to crash with X3 but now seems to be pretty stable with Platinum.

I'm really happy with the final arrangement. Platinum has been rock solid for me.

I also used the POD HD500X for all the guitars on this track. I initially thought that I would replace all the gtr tracks with the real amp miced but after finishing the final mixing I was really happy with the guitar tone.

Cheers,

Peter.

    Hi Peter,

What can I say? The over all tune was pretty damn good. I'd be happy with the arrangement too. Solid playing. Good clean and balanced mix.

Video was really well put together and kept me interested all the way through.

So, are you saying you DI'd the guitars? I don't get the opportunity to mic an amp so I always DI. I personally think that guitarists can get a bit strange when you don't let them mic their favourite amp, but this piece shows what a great sound you can get by direct input...

FWIW, I've posted that video on my Facebook page... I've only got a dozen friends though

    cheers

Hey, thanks Andy. I appreciate your comments. Yes, the guitars were all DI'd into the desk. I am definitely one of "those" guitarists that you mention but I've had to eat my words lately.

The thing is that with a device like this it gives you a lot more options with amps that you'd probably not have access to. Even if the modelling is not always dead accurate you have a far wider palette of tones to choose from.

Thanks so much for sharing the video.

    Much appreciated.

That was REALLY nice! I am new so take with a grain or 6 of salt, but IMO some of what I hear out of Sonar users seems over produced. I assume it's because we have all of the toys,we might as well use em...

    Anyways, my faith is restored.......

    Thanks, Charly.

I tried to keep a lot of space in the production and was very aware of "overplaying" and throwing in the kitchen sink. I hope that I've achieved this.

Yeah, that POD HD500X looks the dogs wotsits... I'd love one myself but I can't justify the expense. That is to say, my playing ability does warrant the expenditure (having said that, I blew over £2000 on a PRS Studio last year, just because it looked so damn nice haha).

So I'm having to stick with my humble MMP-2 mic pre-amp and plug-ins like Guitar Rig and TH2.

cheers, and the pleasure was all mine

I come from the amp and mic school but when I recorded this track I used it as a test for the HD500X. I wanted to create "scratch" tracks that I would redo at a later stage. After listening over and over I knew that it just didn't justify redoing them.

Yes, there better modellers on the market but they are substantially more expensive. This unit is excellent value for money.

If you spend the time the tones are there. Incidently if anyone with an HD500X wants these patches, they are available for download free on my website.

OUTSTANDING! If there was a Songs Forum Hall of Fame this dynamic and tasteful production would surely deserve a nomination.

Line 6 should consider this for a demo piece, as it would be a great advertisement for the HD500X given the range of tones represented. Of course, any DSP is only as good as the hands that feed it. You deserve all the credit, not the stompbox.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Thanks Bit, I have made a series of videos on the HD500X but not for Line 6. I'm doing them for a company that distributes in South Africa. I do seriously believe in the product though.

Thanks for listening and for your comments.

I wish Dave Gilmour did more stuff like this!   Well played,  well recorded.  This song is a perfect example of the emotional power a rock instrumental can possess.

Thanks so much for that Randy. Much appreciated. There are a number of videos on my website www.peterhanmer.co.za that were taken during the recording of "Living for the Moment" if you're interested. They're under the "Gallery" heading.

The new album should be wrapped up in the next few months. Just busy with final mix and artwork and then it's the part that is a pain, namely the printing and replication. It's getting to be pretty expensive to manufacture cds these days... but thank you for the support.

@Mesh Thank you for the feedback and I hope that you enjoyed the other tracks too.

@Daryl, thanks for your comment. Yes, I think I was a bit premature posting this track awhile ago. In the future I'll definitely wait until I've recorded the drum kit and done a final...final...final mix.

    Cheers,

    Peter.
