Finally Bit The Bullet

I just upgraded from Producer 8.5 to X1. I got all the downloads last night and am going to make the switch tonight. I have a couple of questions;
1. Does X1 install over 8.5 or do I want to uninstall 8.5 first (I'm thinking the latter)?
2. Add the patches before firing X1 up?
3. any other tips?

Win7 x64 (w/ sp1)
i7 950 quad core
6gig DDR3 ram
Focusrite Sapphire6 USB sound

Thanks!

I believe that X1 is a totally new install and not a bolt on to 8.5.
I still have 8.5 installed on the same machine that I am running x1 with no problems.
    Yes, install patches.
    Enjoy

    1. Both wrong. You never install Sonar over a previous version and you should not uninstall the previous version prior to installing X1 or X1 will not be able to import your settings.
    2. I don't think it matters.
    3. There is a sticky post at the top of the X1 forum that talks about installing X1. You should read it.

Read that and everything else I can find.
Ok, so leave 8.5 as X1 will be a seperate install correct?
How do I inport the settings from one to another? (I'm going to update the Focusrite drivers as part of the process).
After installing X1 I can leave 8.5 in there as a fallback until I'm comfortable with X1 correct? Won't conflict resources?

Sorry about all the questions but I want to only do this once :-)

    Thanks again!

Yes - leave 8.5 exactly as it is.

No it won't conflict resources (I haven't tried opening 8.5 AND X1 at the same time - I expect the results would be interesting.)

Sonar X1 is a completely separate applications/install (not installed over v8.5)
Upon install, X1 will prompt you to import settings from v8.5.  All you need to do is confirm and click next...

On a fresh install, I like to apply all patches prior to opening Sonar.
That said, (as has been said) it doesn't really matter whether you open X1 before applying X1a and X1b.

I'd recommend loading a test project (or one of the demo projects)... and spending some time getting acquainted with the new GUI.
You'll work slower for a bit... as you're learning where everything is located.
A couple of sessions... and you'll be up-to-speed (at least with the fundamentals).

FWIW, After working with X1 since December, I have a hard time going back to version 8.5
I may be in the minority, but I much prefer the GUI/organization of X1.
That said, I would leave v8.53 on the DAW.  This will allow a smooth/graceful transition.

I'm with Jim on this one.
I've been heads down in X1 for over 2 months, and had to briefly go back to 8.5.3. I was lost.
    I prefer X1 quite a bit over 8.5.3.
I can't belive I'm saying this because I was such a dyed in the wool 8.5.3 fan, but it's true.
    I'm with X1 for good.
