Wave Start parameter in Rapture

Hello All -

This comment/request is mainly for Rene, but perhaps others would be interested.

Would it be possible to add a modulation target that is the start point for waveform playback? This would add yet more character and movement to voices and in my opinion be a wonderful addition to an already stellar synth.

Start point of waveform playback is already a destination in the modulation matrix. It's called 'Sample Offset', as it can be used in both samples and wavetables. You can modulate it with any of the matrix modulation sources.

When it is used in wavetables, it sets the phase start (in degrees). When it's used on a sample, it sets the sample offset (in samples).

Hey, let's not forget that cool new Rapture 1.1 tactic: MIDI_Learn_everything_and_then_some. Stick a square wave in two Elements, and right-click on the Phase numerical control in one of them. Wiggle the mod wheel, and you've got an offset phase with each new note. Find a range that you like, and Set Min, Set Max, or Reverse.

Thanks for this. After I wrote the post, I discovered the matrix target as Rene described. THe difference between wavetable and sample behavior he explained now makes that feature clearer to me. ANd b_Rock, the MIDI learn is indeed totally cool!

One more observation/question: it seems that if you change the start point the sample/wavetable loops from that point to the end, ignoring the rest of the loop behind the start point. It would be cool to loo the entire sample, but modifiy where it starts. Also, it seems you have to retigger a note for the new start point to take effect, you can't change it and hear anything when you hold a note down.

Thanks yet again, Rapture is a great synth!

Wavetables (snippets < 3000 samples long) will cycle continuously regardless of what's the start point you pick. If you set a negative value, they will start from a random position everytime.

    Samples behavior has more variables:
    - If the sample is unlooped, then it'll play from assigned start to the end, then stop.
    - If the sample is looped, and the assigned start point is before defined loop start point (defined inside the wave file), then it'll play and loop continuously.
    - If the sample is looped, but the assigned start point is *after* defined loop start point, then Rapture will play the sample from start point to end, then stop.
