Sound Blaster X-Fi

I have to upgrade my sound card, and I've been looking at Sound Blaster's X-Fi series. I want something that can do 64 bit since I have to spend the money. Does anyone know if the X-Fi's can do 64 bit audio, and if not, is there a sound card that does within the same price range?

Thanks!

I doubt it; I know that the Audigy 4 card only goes up to 24-bit. Very few (actually I don't know any) cards can record at 64-bit right now. The info out there regarding 64-bit sound cards is very confusing at the moment because 64-bit operating systems have just started coming out recently too, so quite often when you see a sound card with 64-bit written on the box somewhere, it's a reference to what OS it can work with rather than how many bits it can record or playback either one. I don't know that Sonar will ever record 64-bit. It just mixes at that. Your sound card doesn't need to be 64-bit to play it back though. I'm not using Sonar so I'm not sure, but I doubt that there is even an option for playing back 64-bit audio.

To clarify what I was trying to say above (and somebody correct me if I'm wrong because I might just be), I think Sonar is only meant to record 24-bit (probably a 32-bit float) or lower, playback 24-bit or lower, and just mixes at 64-bit behind the scenes. In other words, you'll never hear that 64-bit. maybe there's a plan to actually record 64-bit in the future--I dunno. I doubt it though.

If your looking to upgrade, get a dedicated sound interface for recording.
I have an SB and got an M-Audio Fast Track Pro, What a differance.
And that's not even top shelf!

dso yourself a favor and dont even think about getting a sound blaster card. for the same money you can get a semi-pro soundcard.
