DimPro No sound / Noise

I have a thread over here :

http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.asp?m=1033918

ANyone ever have a soft synth NOT make a sound but another one works fine ?

Sometimes when I load a template of my synths, the synth i choose for the output doesn't play
Dimension Pro, for example.

BUT I'll switch the synth output to TTS1 and I get a sound.
I futz around with input/output to no avail
But then it will work on another midi project

Any help or insight would be appreciated

Thanks

I'm wondering if there's any 'hard-wired' controls in DimPro being affected by an incoming MIDI message. CC7 (Volume), CC11 (Expression), and Global Amplitude Attack (CC73) come to mind. Also, check the MIDI Matrix to see if something might be happening with a particular routing, or per-knob MIDI Learn to to see if some message been inadvertently bound.

    Thanks BRock -

So If I had a 'canned midi song' from the internet, and some of those CC-type messages are in there
    can I delete them ?

    other thought:
does it have something to do with the insert soft synth dialog box?
Because I dont get that box when inserting via track template
Does it retain the last used selection in that dialog box

    Food for thought ?
    Or fodder ?
    You decide !
    Thanks

    It can't be that.

In the Piano Roll or the Event List. But volume and expression messages would be there for a reason, I would think. CC73? Well, that might be intended to control some other type of destination, so that could be a problem. Global Attack really doesn't 'silence' DimPro, but with quick enough notes, and a high enough setting, the slow attack can make it appear to be silent.

Actually, I was thinking of song persistence, mainly because it seems to be silent for you at times, and other times it doesn't. Best guess from long distance (although not that long distance).

If you're just using provided presets in DimPro, chances are that the MIDI Matrix has nothing to do with it. In my kind of stuff, I'll often bind aftertouch or CC1/CC2 to Element Volume, so that has the potential to cause unseen trouble. A direct MIDI Learn ... well, you'd probably be getting visible feedback from the knobs moving.

I had a problem with z3ta+ quite a while back. No matter what I did, the filter sliders would just die out to zero. It turns out that I had Omni set to the track, and an M Audio O8 that I hardly ever used was sending spurious MIDI messages. Evidently, I had opened up MIDI Learn, it picked up the flaky knob transmissions, and I was locked into external 'Remote Control' without even knowing it. It drove me crazy for a while.

Press that third icon of four, just to the left of the DIMENSIONPRO logo.

It's blank in both a new project and the one that doesnt work,
the one that doesnt work still doesnt work and the new project created with the same template does
ANd to verify the midi file I imported it into Reason
    Works like a champ there

The DX version didn't have that problem, so I re-scanned the vst's
Now it's just noisy on the VST version

SOME projects have the pitch and mod wheel values in the midi matrix

NOTE: when I open a new midi project from the net and it says sysex data available
    I always cancel

Tremolo and Phaser level, respectively. Don't worry about it.

By any chance is this an audio engine problem in S6PE (6.2.1)? I've run into this before, in fact, B and I were scratching our heads over it just a few days ago. It's where using a "default" template in S6 would zero out the volume of the synth while the audio engine was running, toggling the audio engine on/off had no effect. The quick fix was to never use a "default" S6 template, always use something I wrote myself. It still zeros out the synth (all synths on my system not just DimPro) but now the audio engine can toggle on/off and I get my output back.

    Just a wild guess.

    Will

EDIT: some other Sonar user pointed me in this direction in response to THIS thread posted just a few days ago.

Well, starting with NO project template in S6 at startup helped a bit
    That's the way I used S5

So I guess I'll try to create a new 'normal' template from scratch, so when I select 'new'
it will use the newly created custom template I create and I'll see how it goes

Thanks to youand BRock for helping me with this
I'll lt you know how it goes

    Thanks

That worked - thank you-replacing the default normal template

I also found one bad midi project that, while not corrupted
It wont play the DmensionPro synth-on that one midi song
It's nickelback photograph, so no big loss

NOTE it was on track / channel 10 - default gen midid drum track
Once the bad file disabled the signal to the dimension on channel 10 - no other sounds onany other channel played on that dimension

It'll play session drummer 2, reason, TTS-1 - everything but Dimension
    Weird
    Wonderful it works now
    Thank You Guys

and Again - only this time it's random-and not limited to channel 10

Sometimes DimPro works through my template and somtimes not.

So I insert another instance of DimPro, check the sound and the channel.
    All ok
Then run my Midi project with a midi track pointed to the newly inserted
DimPro instance after verifying it makes a sound ....
    and no sound again.
    nothing - not even manually

TS said to uninstall and re-install DimPro, so Off I go !
