Session drummer 2 & sonar 6

Hi, wondered if someone can help me please?

I've made a midi drum track for a song using session drummer 2 and i want each drum as an audio file so i can compress, eq etc them all separately does anyone know how to do it?

I've got my midi file with session drummer as its output. Then i set up audio tracks for each drum and set its input as an output from session drummer. The audio tracks then turn into synth tracks and the record option disappears. If i then try to bounce these tracks (works with redrum in reason) or export them they are just blank tracks with no signal.

Does anyone know how to do it?

Also when you number the outputs in session drummer as 1 to 8 why in sonar when you try and choose a track’s input from session drummer does it label them only as odd number 3 to 15?

And thirdly (sorry) why doesn’t the help file load when I press F1 in session drummer 2?

I’m probably just being thick.

Since Session Drummer creates 1 track of midi data, you'll need to run the CAL script called "Split Notes to Tracks." Then just make sure each new midi track points to Session Drummer as the output. Then, you can bounce each track separately. Remember, when you bounce, you need to highlight both the midi data track and the Session Drummer audio track.

There may be another way...I haven't played much w/Session Drummer.

Ok, I played around with this, and another way is:

If you have each drum set to a different output, the appropriate number of audio tracks (synth outputs) in Sonar, and the midi is in one track, you can still highlight the 1 midi track and 1 Session Drummer audio track and bounce. Repeat this for each audio output set up in Session Drummer.

Just make sure you are highlighting both the midi and the audio track before bouncing.

I usually allow the synth to add all audio tracks when inserting into the synth rack, the assign the pads to the tracks. To access the help click on the Cakewalk logo the hit F1. It is not necessary to bounce the tracks to add effects to the audio tracks.

j-hindsight -- I recently "cracked the code" on this very issue with the help of Scott Garrigus's excellent manual entitled "Sonar 6 Power!" To use multiple outputs with SD2, do the following:

    (1) From the Sonar 6 menu, select Insert | Softsynths | SessionDrummer 2.

    (2) In the dialog box, check one of the boxes entitled "All Synth Audio Outputs ..." (you can select stereo or mono).

The above steps will ensure you create eight separate audio tracks for SD2 (16 tracks if you selected mono). I too find the labeling confusing, but it's pretty simple to figure out:

    - Output #1 is called "primary out"
    - Output #2 is called "3 in"
    - Output #3 is called "5 in"
    - Output #4 is called "7 in"
    - Output #5 is called "9 in"
    - Output #6 is called "11 in"
    - Output #7 is called "13 in"
    - Output #8 is called "15 in"

Moreover, each output has three options: stereo, left (mono), and right (mono).

    (3) Now go into SD2 and assign the eight instruments (kick, snare, hi-hat, etc.) to whatever output channels you deem appropriate. To do this, you click on the number just above the Mute and Solo buttons. Initially, all of these numbers will be set to output #1. When you click on a number, it will turn orange. You can then change the number from 1 to 8 by using the right and left arrow keys on your keyboard.

    (4) When you selected "All Synth Audio Outputs ..." in step (2), Sonar automatically created either 8 stereo audio tracks or 16 mono audio tracks, depending on whether you selected stereo or mono. When you selected outputs for each instrument in step (3), your instruments were routed to these automatically created tracks as directed by you.

    (5) If you already have a MIDI drum track, assign its output to this new instance of SD2. (If you don't have a MIDI drum track, make one -- and again, assign its output to this instance of SD2.) When you play it back, the instruments will be routed to separate tracks -- kick drum to one track, snare to another, etc. -- and you can give them the individual treatment they deserve!

    Hope this is helpful.

I always load up SD2 with all synth outputs, then go in and group them to outputs, so I can effect the snare, kick and toms seperately.
There really is no need to print the tracks just to effect them. If your system is bogging down, just freeze a synth or two.

    Hi guys...

This a great thread. I have one problem. What if I had initially selected 'First Synth Audio Output', created a few midi tracks and set their out put to session drummer, but later realise cant eq or add effects. At this stage can I 'convert' to 'All Synth Audio Output' ?

    regards

    Hi!

In the sessiondrummer window, under each instrument-picture, you have the number for the audiooutput, I think. You can change these and then route them to different mixer-tracks and use the different effects you need. I can´t prove this right now, because my Sonar is not in reach. I´m sure it´s this way!
