RXP's Groove Browser

Hi,

I have quite a few REX files collected now on my seperate samples hard drive. How can I make RXP's Groove Browser point to a folder of my choice? I don't really want to copy all these loops over to my program drive where RXP is kept.

On a similar note, in Dimension Pro and Rapture's browsers, is there any way to get them to point to more than one folder? I like to keep my own patches in a seperate folder in case I have to re-install.

Cheers, Ears!

I think you can create your programs under a subfolder of the main programs folder of Dimension (ie c:\program files\cakewalk\dimension pro\programs\My Progs\ ). Then when you refresh (F5) the Dimension program browser your folder and programs should show up as a subfolder of available programs.

    Hi techead,

Yes, you can do this but I would like to keep my program folders on a seperate drive in case I have to re-format.

I even tried creating a folder shortcut in c:\program files\cakewalk\dimension pro\programs\ pointing to another location on my other drive but it didn't work

Seeing this thread sparked my interest in the same thing. I have 3 ways to use REX files: RXP, Dimension Pro, and Battery 3. I would also like to know how to point RXP's browser to a folder of my choice. Same w/ Dimension. But I think techead's suggestion may work just as well. Find the root directory where Dimension and/or RXP point and then create subdirectories for the various categories of REX files you have.

BTW have you seen this Total REX DVD set? Over 15,000 REX files

    Yes, I have that collection

There's some very good stuff and it will take you bloody ages going through all those loops!!

Also, check out The Big Reason There's about 3300 Rex files in there.

Cool. I'm just looking mainly for drum loops, however. That's the other thing. There's something to be said for limiting. I'd rather have 50 really good drum loops than 5,000 mediocre ones. Of course to find those 50 you have to sift through thousands of others. Such is modern production technology.

In that case it would be better to use something like Battery 3 and a good drum pad controller. I am looking at buying a padKontrol soon for this reason. I generally use REX loops to beef up and add a bit of colour to MIDI based loops.

Mind you, listening to a tabla loop or a guitar riff sometimes sparks off an idea which could later turn into a song. You could even remove or replace the riff later in the composition to make it totally your own.

don't know if this will work but could you create shortcuts for all the locations of your various rex folders then stick the shortcuts in the user folder for RXP. if it works then you dont have to move the rex files but the show up in the browser.

EDIT - tried this and didn't seem to work

    Hi fragmentated,

Yes, I've tried that. It didn't work, thanks for the suggestion though.
