I'm in love with Sonar again

I just thought i would say this, i have been pretty creative recently (as well had lots of jobs on---its odd going from country music to south indian stuff but fun).

Sonar has been seamless -even though my pooter is old, i have realised again why i bought it.

Oddly enough, I'm going through the same cool experience at the moment. I've gotten back to the place where I can hardly wait to boot up and get busy in Sonar, mixing and experimenting with a song of mine that's been languishing on my harddrive for a couple of years. It feels so good to be back in the "zone" and learning new and amazing stuff about Sonar. And, my machine is old, too. In fact, I'm hoping to build a new machine soon and upgrade from my present SPE 5.2 to SPE 6.21. Sonar, itself, has been amazingly trouble free. Sadly, the same can't be said for my machine, which has been giving me fits since I installed the XP SP2 upgrade from the MS CD. I'll probably be reinstalling XP (and everything else) this weeked to see if I can solve the issues I'm having.

    Keep having fun, artsoul.

You put a new meaning to booting up the hard drive and getting busy. Kinda makes me want to play some Barry W.

I have been going through a lot of grief with various firewire interfaces recently, trying to get one that will work. The last one I took back, the guy was asking me what program I used. "Sonar." And he starts rattling off some line about "Maybe the device won't work with..."

And I think the look on my face stopped him cold. Because what good is the stinkin' DEVICE, if I can't use my SONAR?

CJays: these 3 have gone back to the store --

    Alesis io/26
    Focusrite Saffire
    M-Audio Firewire 410

Each one had its share of issues. To make it more fun, each had DIFFERENT issues. Of them all, the Alesis came closest to working, and it sounded great, EXCEPT it wouldn't send anything out the SPDIF.

Right now, I'm trying out an E-MU box -- USB. The 0404 model. And I have to say, so far, so good. Not perfect, but useable. If I'm going to record music, even just for fun, I can't deal with a device that will not reliably record, when I hit RECORD.

The 0404 is a graet little card. Make sure your using ASIO driver mode and definitly delete your AUD.ini file and let sonar reconfigure the settings. You should not be having any probs with that card.
If your having issues, start another post. I dont want to hijack this one

Cj -- thanks for the tip; I think I'll try getting rid of the AUD.ini file, just on G.P.

    Hey Clik

Check out my post on LIquid mix and Firwire stuff do a search against my name and firewire.

If your using XP Sp2 they are some tweaks you can make that will really help get your firwire working with sonar and an interface.

There is a bunch of advice in there on getting them working.

Yeah, I'm going to lock myself up with that new wave library for DimPro / do some tunesmithing over the (long) weekend. Meh, just heard my Alphatrack will take another week to arrive, with a bit of bad luck. Some stores advertise with it, but none actually stock it yet. I hate that.

gordon: thanks for the tips! FYI, I had manually added the dword to the registry and set the sidspeed (yes, I earn my living as a computer geek) -- no joy for me.

So, for now, I'm evaluating a USB 2 interface (E-MU 0404), which I will probably keep... because it WORKS WITH SONAR.

Hey, they should make big, bright stickers for the boxes:

Heck, I'll get in on the action too... spread the love... I have been pretty much ecstatic with Sonar since I bought it. And besides the fact that it takes up a silly amount of time, I am quite fond of this forum too. Though not in the Barry White sense, just wholesome platonic enjoyment. I don't want my wife to get jealous.

Hey, I never said there was anything wrong with Barry; I was just saying something nice about the forum and... well... didn't want you all to get the wrong idea

I have no problem with mixing pleasures... but I find sitting in front of my computer is not generally conducive...

Besides the depth of SONAR, I really like the fact that you can jump in and record something right away. The only thing that bums me out is the CPU usage of all the plugins and SONAR 5.2 itself on my ancient 2.66 ghz P4. I can't wait for the day when I can stop buying instruments and focus that money on a new computer!
