Midi uses CC7 for volume, and CC11 for expression, which someone here eloquently described as 'volume within volume' - think you want to check that out, but search the forum as well, I remember a discussion pretty recently on generic techniques to really get the best out of 'swells' in general, in audio mixdowns - forgot the thread title, though.

aha. is CC7 like the LSB (vs the main one as MSB)?

the new sonar is kind of confusing because they used to label the CC's and now its just the 5 main ones it seems like, and rest are labeled as just that, CC. i will try this though, thanks!

Think you'll find it all here, too (under RPN) - but tbh I cannot tell you how expression 'delivers', on the legato front (guess that's what you want.)

Ah found the discussion (think it's the same one), IIRC they settled on a gate with an envelope as a good alternative.

All great facts, but your volume is not working because the EWQL orchestras use a version of Kontakt player where you first need to go into the options and enable the use of MIDI volume control.

It's only 'on' by default in the Pro version, I take it... mwuha what a joke - and not a word in the manual, with a bit of luck

man im at a loss i cant seem to find how to add CC in sonar, i turned it on in eastwest. then i went to "new value type" in the top left drop down of the piano roll, but doesnt seem to pop it up. ever since they changed the way sonar does it now, it confuses me.

Just using the volume fader or adding a volume envelope to the midi track will control the CC07. I think they found it easier that way.
