MicroHost Triangle II, Rapture & z3ta GUI issues

I'm running 2 Yamaha i88x mlan interfaces with ADAT in & out of one of the i88xs - giving 28 ASIO outputs (&inputs).

This causes some flakeyness on the Microhost GUI for audio out selection.

In Rapture (v1.1) no outputs are shown when audio clicked. Output defaults to mlan 1+2 apparently.
Same thing in z3ta (v1.5.3)

In Triangle II (v1.11) outputs 1-20 are shown, next on the list are a fragment of the exe's path, hijklmnopqrstuvwxyz & finally |||||||||||

All display/work fine in Sonar 6PE - so there's my workaround.

Edit to add - other ASIO interfaces with fewer i/os display correctly (eg Roland RPC1 8 i/os & Vsynth XT 1 pair i/os)

The rgc:audio microhosts had a maximum of 20 ASIO outputs. A few drivers from different manufacturers fail to zero the strings they use to report the output names, and that's why you see the 'fragment of the exe path'. You might take a look as we've reported those cases and they might have a newer driver which fixes the issue.

The microhost needs to be able to set the samplerate in your ASIO device, otherwise it won't open the ASIO port and therefore not report any output as available.
Some devices block this mechanism, using some 'lock samplerate' toggle in a driver-related application. You can try verifying if that isn't the case for the Yamaha, and see if unlocking the samplerate makes any difference.

    Thanks René

I'm on the latest drivers (March 2006 ) & the sample rate is fixed by the driver & I'm not aware of an unlock feature but I'll have a hunt.

There has to be some mean to unlock SR, otherwise several apps would fail. Alternatively, you can try setting this:

1- Set the microhost to the SR your driver is, using the microhost SR keys (only need to do this once, microhost will remember your setting):

    F3=44100, F4=48000, Shift+F3=44100, Shift+F4=88200

    2- Close/Reopen the microhost.

A check of the mLan/i88x manuals tells me how to set the sample rate but not how to lock/unlock.
Under troubleshooting software sample rate errors the suggestion is to close the app & set the sample rate in the i88x's control panel to suit or change the apps sample rate.

A search of the mLan forums reveals nothing except someone complaining they can't control sample rate from within Cubase, the suggested workaround being to add a dithering plugin (UV22??) to the output bus.

Thanks for the tip on setting microhost default sample rate, it gets rid of the pesky (occassional) unsupported sample rate error message - though it doesn't change the behaviour of the audio out menu & I still can't select any output other than the default 1&2 in Rapture or z3ta. It's not a big problem - I have a workaround (Sonar) for more complex/obscure routings.

Interestingly, when setting the default sample rate from z3ta+ 1.5.3 I get 2 confirmations of the sample rate set message, but from Triangle & Rapture only 1.
