Lyric Font Size

I have Sonar 3 producer version. The song I am working with has a piano track and a lead track which contains the lyrics. I can change the font and size in the lead track lyric view, but it doesn't change the viewing or print size when in the staff view. The words are too small to be read. How can I get the font size to change when I print the score.

Hi hhrmp,

Sonar, as far as I know, won't let you change the font size for the printout. For all the cool stuff Sonar can do, its options for printing music are pretty limited, but generous since it's not a notation program.

You might want to take a look at more full-fledged notation programs... like Finale, which even has a free version (or a $25 version that imports standard MIDI files that Sonar can export).

Or, if you really want to go nuts, take a look Sibelius, which is the uber-notation suite, or so I hear from friends of mine. Great for composing your next avant-garde symphony.

If you just want to increase the font size on a lead sheet, check out the $25 Finale.

While in the staff pane, right-click outside the staff (in the white area) and you'll see a menu that let's you change various staff settings (choose 'layout'). I think that menu includes the lyric font. It's at the lower left side of the layout menu. If you change it in the lyric view you won't see the change when your are looking at the staff pane. But when you do it in the staff pane you'll see your change under your notes.

I'm doin this from memory so I'm sorry if my directions don't lead you to the right place.
It will print out a pretty nice copy of your music.
good luck
Peace,
Terry

Does the Sonar export / Finale import include lyrics in the equation? I'm not even sure if Sonar exports them - in fact, I don't even know if the SMF spec includes lyrics? That would be way cool if it did.

I checked out the free Finale version, I quite like it. If the lyric linking works I'll buy..

Wanted to add on to Terry's excellent guidance.  Make sure that before you click the "Set Font" button that you have "Lyric Text" selected in the drop-down to the right of the of the "Set Font" button.  It wasn't obvious to me initially that you can independently change the font of Track Name, Lyric Test, Expression Text, etc.
Once you choose which type of text you want to manipulate, it works great!

Hi Terry and Geff,
Many thanks for the handy hints - I completely failed to appreciate that the "Track Names" drop down" was going to have other useful options including lyric text etc. This makes the layout functionality somewhat more flexible - now I and others can actually read it!
