Audio and Soft Synths Don't Sync
Hi, I am currently running Project5.v2 and having trouble getting audio to sync with MIDI tracks playing soft synths. When I am recording the audio, it is lined up properly and sounds in-time to me. The problem comes when I then play it back- the audio and MIDI tracks do not line up. I am using WDM drivers for a M-Audio Delta 1010 interface, 16bit 44.1kHz audio and running this on 32-bit Windows XP. The computer specs are an Asus MB, Athlon AMD64 CPU, 1GB RAM and the CPU meter in Project 5 is only hitting 30% tops when I am recording. Any ideas? Thanks, Scott

what sort of latency are you getting with the WDM drivers ? have you tried ASIO ?

I have tried WDM, ASIO and Direct Sound...no luck. The latency is around 87ms, but I don't see what that has to do with it as I am not playing any synths with a controller or anything. I have noticed that it somewhat improves when I freeze all the synths.

I would guess your latency is the problem. Switch the drivers over to ASIO, and then restart Project5, have a look at your latency then if its still 87 ms, click on the small asio button on the right hand side, and look for a setting for buffer settings. Set that setting lower. Im guessing you are monitoring through Project5 (as opposed to using ASIO direct monitoring). The latency is most likely the problem. As for it staying at 87ms, when you switch drivers it should change, but usually only when you reopen the audio sttings.

I switched it to ASIO drivers with a latency of 5.8, but I still have the problem. I though latency was only a concern when you want to monitor things through the actual application. I am doing all my monitoring through the M-Audio Delta's built in mixer.

I know you mentioned ASIO drivers before, but they do not help. It is the same problem if not worse.

5.8ms ASIO is a decent latency so there may be other issuses at hand here. I would sugest that you try to explain in depth to help clarify what the issue might be so you can get help from someone who might have walked the same road and came out on top. go into detail....with the prosess , give a play by play does this happen when you play a tutorial? what are you using to monitor your audio ? do you have a seperate mixer , so you can monitor your recording as your progect plays back with out introducing latency for audio or are you doing your thing with out one does this tendeny to delay , happen in other music software you might have , or is it only in P5 are you running the latest drivers on your sound card ? is there an onboard card causing issues the list can go on and on...... try to create the most detail possible , so someone who has an eagle eye can recignise a possible solution to help you often times help can come from unexpected sources fwiw I had an issue yesterday , and sought answers short story a plug I use was updated with a new version / more features I happen to love the plug and use it as a main go to and didnt realy feel like updating , but I did after installing .....I went into a SONAR project and used it , when going to save my work it crashed SONAR I did a side by side with the old plug , and new plug the old plug was fine, the new one crashed every time went to the thread where the manufacture had given the heads up .... no answers ... started a thread of my own.. it was looking bleak for a while there , but a fella in the know asked me what version of the new plug I was running I had 1.00 ....he said 1.00 was only up for one day and that I should get 1.01 I was like WTF ...I had followed the companys e mail and I was just one of the first to jump on it and didnt know they fixed a flaw. I did instal the 1.01 and now everything is OK it's always something simple ....and the guy in the know is always around here He or She just goes by a different name on any given day of the week depending on what the problem at hand is ...with patience there will come an answer good luck Kenny
