Just Upgraded to v2.5, crash on startup. Help please.

Hi, I just upgraded to v2.5 and do not have a MIDI device connected. After startup before anything else I get a "MIDI Devices" window and an error "Unable to initialize audio. Your audio device(s) may already be in use." error. When I click OK I get the following:

"Project 5 has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience."

When I click the "For more information about this error click here" link I get the following:

Error signature

AppName: project5.exe AppVer: 2.5.1.252 ModName: msvcr80.dll
ModVer: 8.0.50727.762 Offset: 00008a8c

Note: Project 5 was loading perfectly before the upgrade.

Additional info: I did reboot after installing the 2.5 and 2.5.1 updates and also deleted the P5Aud.ini file from both the program directory and documents and settings directory. It reprofiled when I loaded but still gave me this error.

Since I cannot even get into the program now I can not change any audio settings from the menus. I suspect I will need to edit and INI or registry setting to get it working.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks...CG

Which audio interface are you using and which OS?, if its not the onboard sound, go into your bios (or device manager) and disable the onboard sound. Thats the likely culprit.

If its the onboard sound, you might have an application thats running in your tray that is already using the soundcard, and preventing P5 from using it, in which case I have no idea where to proceed, other than getting a better audio interface or reverting to 2.0.

It is onboard sound. I shut down anything that possibly would be using the audio with no luck.

Hopefully someone will have a suggestion before I have to revert back to 2.0

Does the onboard sound have one of those applications running in the system tray. If so uninstalling it might actually fix your problem. This would force your computer to use the Windows driver for your audio, as opposed to the manufacturers.

    Alternatively download and use ASIO4ALL.

I would have to add , that when your budget allows I would recommend you get yourself a better audio interface, you can get them quite cheap. Behringer FCA 202 for example (although it has no vista or 64 bit drivers). EMU 0404 PCI. There are quite a few reasonable quality audio interfaces that are relatively cheap , and would improve your experience with any music software. Onboard sound might be good for games , but not for DAW applications.

Ah OK. I will try the drivers first then check into a better audio board. I agree for this I should probably be using real audio instead of onboard.

    Thank you...GC

OK, ASI4ALL solved the problem. I am up and running with 2.5.1 now.

    Thank you so much
