Cakewalk USB Music Pack

I have Cakewalk's USB Music Pack and have been able to record audio but am having trouble hearing midi. I have been able to record midi data and it sends the data back to the keys (Korg N264) through the usb>midi i/o cable but have no audio. Am I doing something wrong or am I missing something? I tried troubleshooting but it didn't help. How do I know if I have midi drivers installed and if I do not have any installed where can I get some? It's an HP laptop and I just want to get this to work so I can play around. Nothing serious really but I am getting frustrated. Thank you!

I dont know about the Korg (does it have speakers?) but with my E-drums I have to take my line out from the drums to the line in on my interface in order to hear the MIDI playing the sounds from the drums. Is that what you want to do, have the Music Pack trigger sounds from the Korg?

The N264 does not have speakers. And I don't have an interface either except for the usb to midi cable that came with the "music pack". The software is music creator 3 but you gave me an idea. I understand midi is just information and it is not like audio, but maybe I could take one of the line outs and send it to a di then to the mic input on the laptop and record it as audio? Maybe that would work. I think that the problem lies in midi drivers. Maybe I don't have any installed? Hopefully someone can help. Thanks for the reply

I think you're on the right track. If you plan on doing alot of recording you really should look into getting a decent Audio/MIDI interface ASAP. Just dont get a SoundBlaster because they're no better then what you have now. If you can afford to, look into something along the lines of MOTU, E-MU, RME, PreSonus. It's well worth the investment if you're going to stick with it.

Good luck, have fun and welcome to the greatest Forums on Earth.
