Mild midi sync troubles...need some help.
Hello, I'm having some trouble getting my Korg MS2000r's arpeggiator to sync to Sonar's (3.1) tempo properly. The tempo matches perfectly, but the MS2000r's clock doesn't seem to reset properly when I start a sequence in Sonar... so the MS2000 will always be a little late, a little early, on the off-beats, etc. To reiterate: When i hit play in Sonar, the tempo light on the MS2000r stutters, as if it was syncing directly to Sonar, but it just doesn't land in the right place. It does, however, adjust to the correct tempo. I've tried clicking on the "always start/never continure" box with no results. Any help would be greatly appreciated. -Rob

sounds like an arp issue.. Does the MS2000 have an option to keysync the arp patterns ?

Though I've been using synths for years, the MS2000 is my first one with an arp and sync-able lfo's, med-sequencer, etc... so i'm pretty new to the weird world of Midi Sync. I do remember seeing the word "Keysync" somewhere but I can't recall exactly where. I will look when I get home tonight. Does keysync start the clock on the first note recieved? that'd be awfully convenient. Thanks for the help.

Your post bring up a question I have too. I have only been using Sonar 3 for a couple of weeks now, but I am a long time midi user. I have a microkorg w/ an arpeggiator -I think the arp. must be similar to your ms2000's. It seems that sonar is alway outputting midi clock, even when stopped? I cant figure out how to stop it? Yes when I hit start/play everything sync's(drum machines etc.) but the arpegiator runs before I hit start--? Maybe you are experiencing the same problem? Does the ms2000's arpegiator run before hitting the start button on Sonar? I find this frustrating- I'm sure a workaround would be to start the arpegiator a few measures into recording, then Edit? But I would like to find a buttton to turn the clock off when it is at rest..????

Well, I was having all sorts of trouble before... similar trouble to yours, but then I switched from using my MOTU MicroExpress to an old Opcode Studio 64X, and most of my troubles dissappeared. heh, go figure. The only remaining problem is the slighty out of sync thing. The tempo will match, but the MS2000r's clock won't reset when a hit "play" in Sonar. Setting the arpeggiator to "keysync", as suggested by ".", does function as a work-around, but it seems some of the arpeggiator's flexibility is sacrificed (when in KeySync mode). Can anyone help shed some more light on this subject?

Win XP home. I found a a guy/group who had been updating drivers for the thing. My opcode had been sitting in the corner for years, but it worked perfectly with this guy's driver. Installing the driver was a multi-step process, but the documentation was good, and once it was finished the 64X worked great. No screwing around with com settings or any nonsense. here's the link: http://www.x-pressive.nl/opcode/ Still could use some help on the thread issue though... anyone?

Hey kid you're Dynamo!!! My Studio 64XTC has been sitting as well, I was looking for drivers last night and didn't find any thanks for the Link. As far as your midi problem goes I've had midi problems for years wiith Cakewalk products all the way back to Cakewalk Ver3 to my current Sonar3.1.1. When bouncing my midi to audio from external modules because I'm limited to 2 tracks at a time because of outputs my sync walks all over the place. See my posting titled, Cakewalk: Midi Timing Issue; When will you fix????? or Soundproof's, Timing Issues. I've tried all the fixes from this forum and from Cakewalk support and they dont fix. You may find a nugget or two I'm not sure if our problems are related? they might be and your not the only one!!

I got myself a 64X via eBay and also have sync probs... I'm using Win XP Professional with Logic 5.5 - the x-pressive.nl link didn't really work, because I don't know how to log in there... can anyone tell me how to get this driver?

Does your Editor work with the new driver? My 128X Editor refuses to see it tho the unit works fine otherwise which is the main thing.

I have same problem with Korg Electribe. When the Electribe is synced with Korg M3 sync works correct. Press play on M3 and Electribe synced every time. Not sure what difference there is as far as midi messages sent by M3 vs Sonar but there seems to be something. Never tried MidiOX to analyse. Too much of a pain. Just know it doesn't work correctly with Sonar. A way around the problem on the Electribe Sonar comination is to hit play/stop on the electribe each time before pressing play on Sonar. What appears to happen is the Electibe continues from where it left off in pattern rather then starting from the beginning of the patteer (which would be fine if you don't reset Sonar to the beginning of a measure.) EDIT: Wow, Don't I feel like a dope, 2004. Why the heck do people pull up these old threads. Anyways, have sync problem with Sonar 7 as mentioned in original post...LOL.
