Delay with recording from keyboard

I am trying to add a track using a keyboard output into my XP PC mic plug, but it is delayed so that I feel like Steve Martin in the Jerk. How else do you add audio? And, I get background hiss, I suppose that is my sound level and lousy equipment. I have no special sound card, so I understand the quality is equal to my investment, but heck, there shouldn't be a second delay. . . I'm not sending it from the moon.

The hiss could be a lot of things. Did you read up on "Optimizing Audio" in the help files? CW recommends turning off the Windows system sounds, getting off the internet and closing all virus scans, pop-up blockers, firewalls. Turning off automatic updates. They also would like you to turn off all other programs, including the screen saver and wallpaper. Make sure the sampling rate of your sound card and the sampling rate of MC are the same.

You need a semi pro to pro soundcard. It will solve your latency and noise problem

    Ok.
    Latency is the delay?

Oh, forgot this, if my guitar/vocals don't delay (the latency. . .) then why does my keyboard? If all three sounds are running into the same input jack, why is only 1/3 of them goofballed? The sound card solution makes sense if they all do the same thing. . .

    Don't give up fetchwood.
Tell us about your system and hardware.
Does your PC have a Mic and Line-In input or is it one shared jack?
What sound card do you show as the built-in?
Yes, latency is the delay, and the default setting is usually around 500ms(1/2 sec).
Are you recording the guitar and vocals at the same time, then playing the keyboard along with that as you record it?
Does your keyboard have a mono or stereo output?
I have some thoughts, but I need some info first, so we don't go down a bogus path.
The first week or two can be very frustrating, but once you get past that, it gets fun.
Please answer all of these questions. The more info we have, the better we can help you.
