Chip - I'm all smiles. What a wonderful song; heartfelt and genuine. And so true: Believe me, I can relate to your thoughts and words, and everything you and your wife are going through. I absolutely love the lyrics ('you can spit or drool, we think it's cool') and your performances on both guitars and mandolin are excellent. Nicely harmonized too. If you care, I got some pointers which you might, or might not want to change on your song: Drums - I'm not sure if you actually need them. They do seem to be a bit lonely. There's not much room for them, I think. Instead (as Rob above pointed out), I'd increase the presence of the strings/synth you've got in the background. I think, that would sound lovely. Vocals - while they sound really nice, I think they're too dominant and too wet; also, I would cut some low frequencies using EQ. But, again, I really love the song as it is. Good job! Heinz.

Chip - great tune, awesome sentiment. Nice clear recording on the acoustics and mandolins. I agree with Heinz that the vocals seem a little heavy in the low end and the drums could be softened/dulled a bit to nudge them into the background. Good job on this.

Hey RofCopter, Heinz, and ToneCarver, Thanks for giving the tune a listen, and for your kind feedback. I uploaded a new version which has a cleaned-up ending, the previous ending wasn't what I want. As for the "vocals heavy in the low end", I had been mixing this on my reference monitors, which have pretty flat frequency response. Once I listened on my headphones I think I see what you mean, so I checked my EQ. I had a boost around 125Hz, so I backed that off to flat. Hope that helps. I'll think about the comments regarding drums and strings in the mix and see what, if anything, I want to change there. Again, thanks a lot for your feedback. Chip

Chip, I didn't hear the initial mix, but in this one the drums are VERY low in the mix, but given the nature of thw song, that's not all bad. There's strings or a synth or something in the background that are too faint to hear. Good singing voice, and really nice acoustic work. The vocal didn't sound too dominant or too wet, as Heinz suggested, so you must have fixed that. Good song. Mark

Thanks for listening, theGuitarPlayer and MCourter, and for the useful feedback. It would be a good time to explain that I had intended the synth as not really standing out, but merely filling a "pad" role; almost subliminal. That said, I upped the volume of both drum tracks and keyboard, to see if that makes it sound fuller. Thanks again!!!

Nice work. You can sing well. As a lullaby, it's a little loud I thought. You can always turn it down though hey :)

Chip, nice smooth lullaby and that's some beautiful lyrics and the vocals are done very well. Are you kin to James Taylor??? In the beginning the drums still seem to be a little too dominant for this song, but they ease off into the background nicely later on. That's the only nitpick I have on this one, and it's only MO. Good stuff and nice to hear from you again. Did you ever get me E-mail a couple of months ago about doing a collab?? DuRod

Good song "daddy". She'll really love this song when she's a teen! The vocals are too high in the mix. Guitars could come up as well as the strings. Other than that, you've got a great song. -Matt

Montezuma, DuRod, Asher, I'm just getting back to this thread now... it's been the week from hell at work. Thanks for the listen, the kind words and the feedback. No kin to JT, DuRod, but I love his music so I'm much flattered. I'll cut the vocal volume and recheck the drums, too. As for the guitar volume... I'm not that happy with my fingerpicking on this tune. I just haven't been playing enough lately that my fingerpicking is solid. So I don't think boosting the volume would make the song better. It would just make the mistakes (mostly in timing) more apparent, in my opinion. That's where I would especially consider a collaborator. Anyone interested in trying? DuRod, I do remember getting your email about a collab. I'm sorry that I didn't respond. I've never done a collab long-distance, so I'm not sure what's involved. I'll send you a private email to find out what you're interested in trying. Chip

Chip, Very precious song. I am certain that your daughter will treasure this forever! I really like the melody and the lyrics. You have captured so many of the memories and feelings that all of us who have watched our daughter grow, have experienced. I know this was about "Mary", but I kept seeing "Nicole". Loved it!! Dan

Thanks Danley, I'm glad you can relate the song to your own daughter. My daughter Mary is now 22, so the song was a prediction. And the time did fly by... way too fast. Enjoy every moment with your daughter. Larry, I appreciate your positive feedback as well. The mic is a Groove Tube GT66. I'm pretty happy with it so far. Chip
