Looping
I’m trying to record a short piece and then loop it with precise timing. Has anyone successfully done this before?

Um, groove clipping? Loop recording? What are you referring to? The answer is most likely a yes, though... looping is pretty simple in Sonar. If you're using Sonar 5 you may just need to download an update if it's a midi issue... there was something with that... but otherwise it's pretty solid.

looping isnt' a forte of sonar, though it can be done using the markers and 'loop' playing, things like ableton live are more designed for that sorta thing. is it just a simple wav you wanna loop, or is it more complex than a play - rewind - play sorta thing? that better?

But groove clip looping is a major part of sonar and it's a piece of cake! (pun intended)

What i want to do is, instead of playing the same chord progression throughout the entire song, just play the four chord rythm and copy and paste it seamlessly.

Aubrey, look in the help file under "Groove Clip" or "Groove Clip Looping". What you want to do is record the measure, slip edit it to the exact measure bars, and then right click the clip and select "Groove Clip". Then you can slip-edit the end of the clip and drag it out as many times as you want, it will just automatically loop itself. Tough to explain in a sentence, but very simple to do once you get it. Good luck!

It has always been a major and "forte" of Sonar. It was looping in Sonar 1 that made it diffrent from Pro Audio 9. Sonar 1 even had a Loop editor as Sonar 6 does today. Best Best

What i want to do is, instead of playing the same chord progression throughout the entire song, just play the four chord rythm and copy and paste it seamlessly. That is know as looping. You don't need to copy/paste to do that just roll it if you have converted it to a grove clip. You can do this with audio and MIDI. You can also change the chord with key makers. Again, either audio or MIDI. Best John
