AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! BASS!

Im going crazy guys!

I have a preset on my GNX4 that can emulate the tone and sounds of an actual bass (without actually owning a bass - which is a really cool feature to this product). However, I'm having an incredibly hard time mixing the bass, and bass in general, into my songs. I've never really had a hard time with vox, or leads and rythyms with guitar, but for some strange reason, the bass is giving me a lot of trouble. Maybe becasue I am a newbie at mixing these types of tones. Never had bass in any of my stuff before. Everytime I put the bass high, it overpowers the song, to little and you can't hear it. What do you guys do to make the bass fit nicely in the mix. Does it have to come a bit heavier than the rythyms in the sound field?

I've enclosed a sample of bass I've been trying to fit into a song. The link is below. Please let me know if this is the right level, or should it be louder, etc.

Thanks

Bryant

Here's the link to the song!

Bass is a difficult intrument to get in the mix right. I'm recording something right now, so I'll listen to your clip either later this evening or early tomorrow, and see if I can help a little. I also have a free plug in or two that might help, and I have a system for eq and volume to get my bass to sit better, but I need to go through the process and make notes, 'cause I really can't remember what I do right now, and wouldn't want to tell you the wrong things. But I will work on this for you.

Hey Bryant! I just checked my e-mail....s s sorry I didn't get a chance to check that tune out yet :( I've been out for a while.

The 'emulated bass' sounds ok in the mix, the guitars seem to shift in their placement and sounding. It takes away from the punch a song like this wants thoughout the whole piece IMO. The bass and drums are pretty steady and consistant, the shifting guitar levels make it harder to settle in, if you know what I'm talking about.

Being emulated it sounds as if it's not a dynamic as a real bass is, that can be a GOOD thing, bass can be hard to mix, this bass sounds good...it's got that smooth warm sound a bass should have.

Awesome guys! Really appreciate you getting back to me. Yeah, I'm glad I'm not the only one having problems with this dreadful instrument! Lol. Albert, I appreciate you looking into this for me, and good to hear from you Terry. How's the CD going?

It's coming along, layers and layers. I've posted some of the stuff on my site and removed all the old stuff. So no more fizzy guitars to hear, it's sad I know :P I'm almost done with writing all the songs, a couple more then it's retracking time and all the additional parts.

    How's your project coming along?
