Sonar Home Studio 6 metronome dropout problem....
I know that if you uncheck "use multi processing engine" under 'audio,' this fixes the problem. But, I was thinking -- why should I HAVE to uncheck that to fix the problem? I paid for my computer and I want to use the full resources of the system, so has anyone else found a solution to fixing this problem? For anyone that doesn't know what I'm talking about: some people, like myself, have experienced random dropouts when using the metronome in SHS6 but if you uncheck "use multi processing engine," the problem is mysteriously fixed. Well, for me, it's not fixed. I find it unacceptable. Anyone else?

No one ever replied to this post, but I know that the problem isn't fixed. Any update from Cakewalk about this issue?

I actually didn't know about this and had missed your original post earlier, Jim - are you running with the most recent SHS6 update?

Beagle, yeah, I'm running the 6.2.2 update. That appears to be the most recent update. Others have had the same problem, judging by past threads. Apparently, you have to disable multi processing in the audio menu, which is unacceptable. This is quite irritating for me because I use the metronome A LOT.

yes - that would be irritating, but I haven't heard anything about a fix for it.

This is really poor as I have had this problem also. No one responded to my post. Its looks like you use home studio 6xhl we have moved onto 7 its no longer our problem. I was having drop out hell with recording the first instance it would freeze or I would get no synth sounds. or on playback it would just drop out. I went to DMA which is ticked but for some reason the DMA goes through the BIOS first obviously this is time consuming. So I unchecked that. Since then I can work at about 10ms only getting pops and clicks when recording Vocals. Once that is sorted I will make a note of what I had done. That is my only problem. But sorry to say I have been recording with my router connected to my computer. And I am still using My onboard video card which shares with the OS. But I am being cautious at the moment because I have heard that High end video cards can still cause glitching. But I am wondering whether the lower end cards would also cause a problem. I have two gig of ram two are 512mb and the other obviously 1gig. This also maybe a problem so I have my work cut out at the moment. But I will let you know what happens.

I too get drop out with metronome in S6PE. I get around it by never using the metronome. Instead I create a midi track with a steady drum beat and use it as a metronome. Otherwise S6PE works properly.

I don't use the metronome often in SHS6 but today I was doing an acoustic guitar recording with no drums and I needed to use the metronome. I ran into this problem. The audio engine would just stop after a few seconds of recording. Unchecking "use multi processing engine" resolved the problem. So basically you're only using one processor while that's unchecked. Does this have any adverse effect on the recording? Also, is there another fix or setting change to resolve this problem?

Actually, I DO use SHS6XL. I just didn't type the 'XL' in my original post because I forgot. lol But, yes, the problem exists in XL. SLAYER: I appreciate your advice, but check out the first post again. :)

I'm confused. I wasn't giving any advice. I just boosted this 'cause YOUR advice helped me. I also wanted to see if any other dudes other than us had this problem. BTW, I'm also rockin' the XL version.

I can't get the metronome to work at all, and it's very annoying. Running 6.2.1. Single core x64 system and engine.

if you can't get it to work at all, then that's a different problem than what this thread's about. what have you tried? OPTIONS>PROJECT>METRONOME> check RECORDING or PLAYBACK as you need use AUDIO metronome, not MIDI

Oh, sorry but since you asked....:-) Been trying options for it every time I feel like trying it again: Metronome settings: playback, recording checked use audio metronome checked (defaults), ping hi 0.0db other beats ping low -.5db output, my standard audio out that everything else works to :-)

"Metronome" is not an option. For Output just my hardware interfaces, "None", "Master", "Subgroup 1". and "Effect Send 1" ?

6.2.2 supposedly addresses this problem but unfortunately, it has not...I cannot run Sonar home 6xl in multi-processor mode. Which is like running a two legged computer on crutches. Something needs to be done about this. I am appalled. And I don't know why but Cubase is appealing to me now because I never had any problems whatsoever!!!

My output is set to my audio interface (soundcard) and I have no problems using the metronome. Also, I don't have "METRONOME" as an available option. My available options are my soundcard, none, and buses, with all other settings matching those xxrich is using, except "playback." One other difference is I updated to 6.2.2, but, I didn't have any issues before the update that I noticed in re: using the metronome. I'd try the update if I were you xxrich. Beagle, do you have a bus named "METRONOME?"

Thanks but still no go. I'll just ignore like I have so far. I haven't been able to figure it out for quite some time, so it must be something very obscure. Not the end of the world :-) BTW, the latest release appears to be 6.2.1 at the CW website, which I have. I don't see 6.2.2 anywhere. Perhaps 6.2 was meant. -rich

I assumed xxrich that you are using Home Studio 6 or Home Studio 6XL, since that is the forum you posted under. If that's the case: Ha-ha. My turn to feel stupid :-) No, Producer 6. I had google'd my problem and landed in this thread:-) That makes more sense now as I never did figure out what 6XL meant. Extra large didn't work, nor Windows XL:-))) Looks like this portion of the code is the same though for both. -rich
