which version to use?

I'm working on an older computer, and I have sonar 2, 3 and 5. Is 5 that much cooler than the older ones? I can't remember.

Uh Yea. The reason for different versions are that they improve and add features to the newer versions.

I suggest you use the version that works well, on the specific hardware in question. Unfortunately, it will take some trial and error to dope that out...

How old is this computer we're talking about here? What are the specs?

Each subsequent version of SONAR repesents a years development so there's a big gap between V2 & v5. In this same time we went from P111 processors to 64bit dual processors with speed improvements in RAM, hard disc drives & DVD recorders. You decide how cool all those extra features are. Just install them all together and try them out. You'll probably find that S5 puts a bigger strain on system resources.

It's an old 800 mhz box that I slapped together so I can transport around and record with. I've got xp on it tweaked down to the bare minimum resources, probably 800 megs of ram. The only reason I put xp on it is to run 5 producer, because I've gotten used to it, but now I'm scared to try it. I usually use 5 on a 1 gig xp machine with no problem. I know my hardware is old, but I don't have to worry about latency or anything because I go straight into a line 6 guitar port through usb. One day I'll graduate to something newer hopefully. I was just mainly trying to remember if the compressors and stuff I've gotten used to were close to the same.
