Old School MIDI Question

I recently found an old Opcode STudio 128X in my gear storage. I hooked it up to my DAW with the Serial Com port, downloaded all the drivers, etc. It shoes up in MIDI Devices as SoundMAX WDM MIDI (1-6) which is a little odd because it is an 8 channel MIDI interface. HOwever, there are no Inputs listed and I cannot get the device to show up under the Sync option in projects.
This is no big deal as I am not set on using this piece of gear, but thought if it was laying around and worked, why not?!
But, if anyone has any experience with this or other old school MIDI interfaces and can offer a solution - much obliged!!

Using a USB to serial adapter should not make any difference. What OS are you using? Do you have the latest drivers that were made?

I have had some of the ports on a midisport not show up until after a full shut down - turn off the pc - restart, then more drivers were detected that allowed the rest of the ports to show up. I doubt this is your issue, but it's worth the 5 minutes.

Let's come clean here. "Opcode" says it all. Dump it in the trash can and save your precious time for something better. You can't even sell that thing on E-bay! Take it from a former Opcode Studio 128X owner. How can I put this succinctly: don't hold on to the past, Opcode is dead and buried, you have a "former" MIDI interface, Opcode has bought the farm, etc., etc.

Don't feel too bad as a former owner of a ton of obsolete and orphaned equipment and software, let me give you the best advice. Let go and clean house. (Former owner of Passport Systems MasterTracks, Encore and Alchemy (sample editor), Digi-Design NuBus AudioMedia (2x2 16 bit 44.1KHz audio interface), MusicQuest MQX-32M (2 x 16 MIDI interface for the ISA bus), Voyetra 4 x 16 MIDI interface for the ISA bus, SoundBlaster Pro 16 with EMU wavetable daughter card), Voyetra Audio View wav editor and some Turtle Beach stuff I don't even remember. All disposed of. There was one exception, the MOTU Midi Express XT, I got a pretty penny for that on E-Bay. LOL.

I know I'm a few $$ late and a day or 2 short but I have the same setup.
 
The XP drivers work and the 128X does show up in Sonar 8 with a gazzillion MIDI channels..yeehaw. Only thing not working is the preset editor. It refuses to see the drivers and won't talk to the 128X. I get by using the presets but am bummed that I can't change them to my needs. So unless someone comes up with an idea that'll make it work I'll eventually have to upgrade.
