SONAR 7 PE and WaveLab?
Here is a problem that I've been able to reproduce repeatedly with SONAR 7.0.1 PE: 1. I export a stereo mix from SONAR 7.0.1 PE. 2. I open the exported file in WaveLab 4. 3. I trim the end of the wave file so it doesn't have a long silence space at the end of the song. 4. I add some polishing finish to the wave and "render" the file. 5. As I exit WaveLab, with the file name highlighted, I select "save selected" and WaveLab exits quickly WITHOUT saving the "rendered" (edited) version of the wave file. Now, here is the Expected Results that I get using SONAR 6.2.1 PE: 1. I export a stereo mix from SONAR 6.2.1 PE. 2. I open the exported file in WaveLab 4. 3. I trim the end of the wave file so it doesn't have a long silence space at the end of the song. 4. I add some polishing finish to the wave and "render" the file. 5. As I exit WaveLab, with the file name highlighted, I select "save selected" and WaveLab exits SAVES the "rendered" (edited) version of the wave file. It seems that files exported from SONAR 7.0.1 are not properly handled in WaveLab 4 but files exported from SONAR 6.2.1 ARE properly handled in WaveLab 4. Has anyone else experience anything similar to this and is there a compatibility issue with V7.0.1 and WaveLab 4? (I have sent this report to the good folks at Cakewalk). Here are my system specs: 2.4ghz Intel processor, 1gb ram, 20gb system drive, 80gb audio drive, NVidia GeForce FX5700LE video card, PCI-424 Card with MOTU 2408 mk3 and 24I/O, Windows XP SP2

Me too. I actually had wavelab "critical error" or something like that yesterday. I am also using Wavelab 4. I was trying to stretch some audio in wavelab and return it to SONAR 7.01. As I closed Wavelab, it gave me the "has to shut down" message and the file was not saved. I didn't think about it until you mentioned it, but it is repeatable. I ended up just doing the process in SONAR, but it sure took a long time as compared to Wavelab. Jeff

Jeff Yeah, I was trying to edit an audio clip prior to exporting the stereo mix when I first noticed some strange behavior in WaveLab. I think it's some kind of incompatibility issues. Hopefully Cakewalk can give us feedback. I'll keep you posted if/when they reply to my inquiry. Anyone else with some "horror" stories with S7PE and WaveLab 4?

Thanks Theo, that definitely helped. I just need to remember to select Wave (Microsoft) when exporting from SONAR 7. Now my question is does this problem occurs when using WaveLab as an editor within SONAR? Make me wonder why did they change the way SONAR exports wave file in the first place

It is definitely a SONAR 7 problem. 6.21 works fine.

[quote: Now my question is does this problem occurs when using WaveLab as an editor within SONAR? ] whattarush, Using Sonar 7.01, I get a crash with WL using it as an editor within Sonar whenever the source file is 16 bit. If the source file is 24 bit all is ok. Again, I first noticed this problem after the installation of 7.01. Didn't notice this happening in 7.00. Wonder if there is a way to change the default export in 7.01 to wave [Microsoft] and not "wave" when using WL within Sonar? This is my guess for why this is happening. Also think this is a good question for Noel to see if there's a work around for this scenario! Hopefully he is still following this thread.

I will have to try a 24 bit file. I'll get back on this.

BTW, I still have not heard back from tech support with a response to my e-mail.
