tempo detection

I want to re-do an old drum track for a song, but no longer have the original program I did the old one with.

Is there a way to listen to the track, or use some sort of freeware software to detect the exact tempo of the previous track?

Thank you!
Scott

Scott, Mixmesiter has a BPM analyzer that can be found here. I use when I get a file from someone and need to know what the tempo is. It's close to accurate and should get you what yo are looking for. And it's free to boot.

I'm pretty sure there are some tools in SONAR to do this, but I've never used them so I can't be any more specific.
It sounds like the link Doc gave would work.
What I use to figure out the tempo of an imported file, and to set the tempo of a new song that I have in my head when first starting a project is
TAP TEMPO which is free and sits in the SONAR "tools" drop down menu.
You just play the song from a track, or in your head and tap out the tempo on the space bar.
    Works great for me.

    Hey Ken,
It's been a while since I did this so I had to think hard about it...
There is a guy named Bruce Ennis on this forum who has a Sonar Utilities program.
It's also free and it allows you, among other things, to add/start programs from the Sonar Tools menu.
There may be another way, but that's how I did it.
Unfortunately, I couldn't get the search function on the forum to come up with Bruce's posts, but he has a link to his program in his sig...I think...

for anyone interested... bruce ennis' sonar utility program can be found here.
bruce has changed recording hosts and no longer supports the program - not sure how long it will be available.
    hope this helps.

Tap Tempo isn't a menu command--it's invoked from a button in the Tempo View dialog.

You also might look at Audio Snap, which I have a hard time using, but many find it useful. It has a "Find Tempo" feature that works for music with a strong beat.

Sorry, we're talking about a different program that you can put in your Tools menu and works better than the tap in the tempo view.

    DOC!
Thank you so much. Downloaded MixMeister and it works great! Just what the DR ordered! Hah. I tested it out on some that I knew and it was perfect. Nice.

This forum rocks. You guys teach me so much.

    Much appreciated.

    Scott
