Windows Vista Startup Manager

I think this is a "technique" question. . . I'm trying to find a program that will allow me to start Windows Vista with nothing running other than my Cakewalk (or selected) programs. I have a little program that works with XP that was called "Game Prelauncher," which allowed me to start XP without the Windows Explorer or any hardware/software that was not necessary to run a videogame (or music software). You could set a specific startup profile and toggle between that and the normal Windows startup. It was great, obviously, because it frees up the processor by eliminating all of those little programs and processes. Unfortunately, that little program doesn't work with Vista. Does anyone out there know of a similar utility that works with Vista? Or at least a good startup setting that I could use to give me the same result? I would appreciate any direction I can get. Feel free to email me a reply at elayman1@cox.net. Thank you!!
